Is there a way to resize the pointer when drawing. When I make any selection the four arrow pointer covers up the end points, midpoints.

Welcome here!

The 4 arrows pointer is the LogiCurser and only occurs when an object is selected.
It doesn't cover anything you can work with, because to move a drawn line you don't need i.e. the midpoint, the movement in one direction is always available with the whole line, curser anywhere. It shows also the area where contexted menues are available (right mouse key)

Switch on Snaps (Windows > Snaps) and activate Show Display Snap Textes (File > Preferences > Snaps) also as activate the Gripper (Windows > Inspektor)
If you draw now a new line to the midpoint of a 2nd line, the position of the midpoint will be pointed by the text "Midpoint" in a certain distance to it.
This distance is standard 8x8 pixel, you can change this area also via Preferences.

It is strongly recommended to consume the Tutorial videos and the Help (?) also as the youtube channel (> search: ViaCAD, Punch Software, Shark ...).
Tim Olsons book Tips & Tutorials is also very helpfull.
