an additional "Workplane" option that creates a workplane normal to the length/axis of a line would be extremely handy; angular orientation of the X & Y axis to me is a don't care! most of the time its needed the line is a center line and the cross section or clearance needs to be viewed or created true size. if anyone has discovered an elegant way to do it with current functionality I'd certainly appreciate a tip. I can get there but it's clumsy and NOT pretty...............

HI Art Set tips below. Tim 4. Work Planes The work plane is always engaged. It is used for objects that are created in a plane such as text, dimensions, and circles. The work plane will automatically adjust to be parallel to the viewing plane if the user defined work plane is perpendicular to the view view plane. Use the ācā key to position and align the work plane to an object. Repeat "c" for additional orientations such as normal to a curve. The position is grabbed from LogiCusor.

Tim-
thanks for jumping in. after reading and re-reading the tip, I'm at a loss on how to proceed.......
assume any line in 3D space
not resident in top/bottom, front/back, or one of the side global work planes. what are the steps to establish/impose the work plane normal to the length of the line (ie: as if to draw a circle to extrude a right circular cylinder)??

first choose the circle tool. then take the cursor near to one end of the line. when your snap reads "endpoint" hit the c-key repeatedly until you get the desired orientation

Antoine-
thanks, I've finally got it....... was thinking more along the lines of a single operation (ie: imposing the Z-axis direction at a point, not a fan of short-cut key solutions) but this implementation works loads better than what I was doing!!
