Wireframe separating from object

Hi,
I've noticed this behavior since v.8 and as it's quite random I can't tell if it's something I'm doing or a program fluke, but I don't think it's me.
Occasionally I find that an object has separated into the wireframe and solid. Both are still connected as selecting one also selects the other. Very often the wire frame has flown off to some location waaay off from where the solid is located. If it's a small part it's nearly impossible to find the errant wireframe.
In the attached screenshot I was working on adjusting some object positions and suddenly find the green plate and its wireframe separated.
Is there a way to merge them back together again? I haven't found one so usually have to delete the object and re-create.
Suggestions anyone?
Mats

Hi Mats,
I've noticed you use a lot of strut drawings. I've found it easier if you
extrude a drawing, and then delete the outline, you will have less problems.
You probably have these links already to models and drawings, but just in case you don't.

Thanks Larry,
Not sure what you mean by "strut drawings"... Are you referring to the strut channel profiles I use in my design and you may have seen on a previously attached file of mine? - This file does not have any strut channels, but square tubing...
Your suggestion to delete the outline/wire frame is ok, but I've found that until the design is final, the outline is required as I do a lot of tweaking until all my numerous objects are in the right place. Or possibly I don't understand the proper use of the outline/wire frame...
Thanks for the links. I get most of my cad files from
McMaster-Carr .
However, the original question remains - why does the outline separate from the solid?? And for no apparent reason.

Hi Mats, What I was referring to by strut drawings, was the unistrut channel and fittings that you use. Your assemblies are very well done, you should post them in the Gallery. When you move an object with an outline, and you don't select the entire object, including the outline, the object moves and the outline stays behind. Larry

Hi Larry,

Not in my experience. Clicking on the object always selects the entire object. If there's a way to select a partial object, I haven't discovered it yet :-)
Selecting a surface face of an object is a partial object I guess, but that requires Solid Direct Edit tools. In this case I was using the standard black Selection arrow tool.

Thanks! The design is proprietary, but maybe I can post some sections of it when complete.
Cheers,
Mats
