Hi,

I have recurring problems with thickening surfaces from SubD meshes.

I have created a simple, non-joined, mesh and subdivided it to levels 1 and 2, then created NURB surfaces from them.

Neither surface will thicken to .1 inch thick solid.


Is there a way to prepare, or clean up, a mesh derived surface for reliable thickening? Or a way to prepare the mesh itself?

The ability to reliably thicken a surface into a solid is very important in my work.

Try using the "Rebuild Surface" tool, then thicken.

Mitch had a great idea regarding rebuilding the surface! If you also need G2 continuity across the seams, you might consider manually rebuilding with a cover with guides.

Tim,

I definitely need continuity and your method of rebuilding the surface as a cover surface with guides worked great. Thanks.

I used the outside edge of the original surface for the cover and the actual seams of the surface as guides. It worked cleanly and the surface thickened without a problem - see the attached image.
