Hi,

I have developed a set of plans that I am getting ready to release and I would also like to have a way for people to be able to view the 3d model. What would be a good way to do this? Ideally a 3d pdf would be great, but any format with a freely available viewer would be good. I am using ViaCad Pro V9 and ViaCad V8.

TurboCad sells a 3d pdf plug in for their product, it would be great if that option were available for ViaCad.

I originally started modeling the project in Sketch-Up, but I find doing a number things in ViaCad easier and wanted the ability to create plans, I do not really want to recreate the model in Sketch-Up if I can avoid it.

Thanks,
Don B.

Hi Don

AutoDesk has a browser viewer that supports over 50 formats. I've used it with OBJ files.

We are looking into 3D pdf export for v10.

Thanks Tim.

I was able to pull the model into the onshape as well so I guess that could also work, would still prefer an offline method. The 3d PDF option would be great, hope it makes it in to v10.

Thanks again,
Don B.

In the interim I found Babel3D, I was able to convert from a step file to a 3d PDF, 7 day trail, $14 monthly subscription for translations (cancel anytime) :) PDF can be edited with pdf tools (not the 3d part) to change the text they add by default (file name and 'created by' Babel3d link). Works for now.
