I came across this posting (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77750-drawing-a-loco-steam-dome-how-to-get-the-varing-flare/) on a model railway forum which I believe calls for a variable radius blend. Can someone confirm if this is indeed the case and if so, provide a mini-tutorial on how this would be done? Thanks in advance, .vp PS: There is a short video (via Dropbox) referenced in the thread however their does not appear to be any sort of narration to assist nor is it is easy to follow along given the blurriness of the animation.

In Shark FX, there's a command that is called variable blend. You can use points along the edge and assign a radius by entering a value, zero for instance or any value. You can also use a curved line as reference and sort of move points along one direction to change the amount of blend- I believe this curved line has to be drawn on an xy plane for the blend to work however. Good luck!

The easiest way to make a flare on a boiler fitting is to use Variable Blend: Hold Line Draw the curved flange that sits on the boiler and the stem of the boiler fitting. Use Add Solid to join the two. Draw a circle centred on the free end of the fitting. Select Variable Blend: Hold Line. Click on the the intersection between the flange and the fitting, then on the circle. The flare will form an it should be adjusted by moving the circle along the axis of the fitting until the outline of the flare just touches the edge of the flange.
