What happened to Sketchup Import?

The Punchcad web site shows Sketchup as a import compatible for Viacad. I have Pro I just bought, and don't see it. It was a selling feature for me as I have a lot of designs done in Sketchup that I would love to port into ViaCad as advertized. Am I missing something??

Hello
SketchUp Import is present on Windows but not Mac v9. Trimble did not have a 64 bit SDK when ViaCAD v9 64 was released. Sketchup is present with Mac v8 32. Encore should update the site and call that out with a "*".
Trimble just released a 64 bit SDK for Mac which I will be adding to all the ViaCAD products as a service pack. If you need something asap, you might contact tech support and ask for Pro v8 until 9 is ready.

FYI
I've integrated the new Mac SketchUp 64 libs into the app today. The next Mac beta with SketchUp will be Shark LT & ViaCAD Pro with PowerPack. If all goes well with the beta, we will move it over to the released builds.

Does ViaCad 2D/3D import "Sketchup Make" files, or do I need the Sketchup Pro version? I have tried using the import feature on ViaCad 9, and the Sketchup file does not import into ViaCad. Nothing pulls in at all. Thanks.

Hi Devon
I recently added it back to the Mac products. We had to wait until Trimble updated the libraries to 64 bit.
The latest implementation should open any .skp file. If you have a file that is not opening with the latest beta, I'd would like to debug and examine which entity type is not supported.

Tim, Thanks for the quick reply. Im using Windows 8, with ViaCAD 9. When I try to import a Sketchup file, I select File, Import, Sketchup (SKP), select the file to import, Open. The file does not load in ViaCAD. ViaCAD screen remains empty with no drawing loaded. You mention the latest Beta. I'm using v9 Windows. Is there a new beta I should download? If so, how? Any suggestions? Devon

Hi Devon
You can download the latest beta (build 1146) with SketchUp using the link below.
http://www.punchcadlabs.com/page7/page7.php If your sketckup file does not load in 1146, please send me the file and I'll see if it is an unsupported entity type.

I am new to ViaCAD Pro 9, having been a decades long user of other producs. Having retired, I wanted a product with solid and surface modelling, decent editing of solids, and good rendering. One of the reasons I purchased ViaCAD was its ability to read Sketchup files. However, when I tried to do this yesterday, I got the following message: "Unable to locate and load SketchUpReader.dll, atl71.dll" Originally I had installed V9 on my laptop, and had no problem. I recently moved V9 to my newer desktop PC and only checked to make sure that it would start. Yesterday I got an email from Tim regarding the newest Beta build, so I downloaded and installed it. When I tried to load a Sketchup into V9 32 bit, I got the error message. Loading the same file into V9 64bit Beta is no problem. Is this problem due to a problem with the 32 bit version only, or is it the result of a conflict introduced by installing the 64bit Beta? I noted that the Beta picked up on my appearance settings and toolbar placements, so it is reading from the same songsheet as the 32bit version for some things. Is the reverse true and the 32bit dll in question has been replaced by the 64bit version?

Hi Francis The 32 bit app installs into Program Files (x86) whereas the beta installs into Program Files. The DLLs are not shared between the two. >>I recently moved V9 to my newer desktop PC DId you copy or install? If you copied, you will need to use the original installer as the installer includes stuff besides the app folder. Also what is the build number for the non beta version of ViaCAD Pro 9? Tim

Encore just uploaded ViaCAD SP1 to the updater and setting up the download links. You should have access to it via the Help : Current Version in the next few days. This has updates for SketchUp for Mac/PC. Tim
