As a long-time EIAS user I'd like to see the translation tools freed-up a bit. I'd like the option to just click and drag on an object to move, scale or rotate it. The option to hold the x, y and/or z keys to constrain would also be great.

Thanks,
Paul

Agree .. they need to feel much more dynamic

I think the x,y,z constrains already work however !?

The xy keyboard constraints work, but they can be flaky.

It's confusing since the z is up in the perspective view but y is up in planar.

Maybe make the option of having z or y the vertical axis an option in the perferences.

You're dead-right Joey

It's broke !!

Works as I'd expect in top view: hold x to constrain X .. hold y to constrain Y

Works as I'd expect in dyn view: hold x to constrain X .. hold y to constrain Y .. hold z to constrain z

In all other views .. the controls get all mucksed ip

I don't know if it's "broke", in a way it makes sense, in the planar, or 2D views, you only have x and y. So the contraints mirror that.

In the perspective views z is added. And the choice was to make z the up axis.

It seems that many 3D programs have y or z as the up-axis, some have the option for the user to specify the axis during modeling or at export.

I'm not so sure

If I'm pressing the z to constrain movement to the Z axis .. then that's exactly what I would expect to happen .. and it doesn't in the "Right Side" view, for example

As for the Z-UP issue .. I dont see why you wouldn't always want Z to be UP .. seems like a good convention to me

In Cobalt there was this very usefull triad in one of the uper working window corners. In dynamic view one was allwas aware which was x,y or z. Now its sometimes confusing. Is there a feature i only have not discovered? One suggestion was to have a small x,y or z in the viewball display. The colorcoding is not enough for my brain :-)

After fighting the GUI for hours just to move some objects over rather long distances, I think what ViaCAD needs is the plain old translate/rotate/resize object widget nearly all other apps have. What is easier than, say, dragging an object from its X-translation arrow around?

If at all possible -- please implement this ASAP. Did more work today and it is extremely frustrating.

Thanks.
