I'd have to now agree with both Steve and Paul now. Getting the surface and spline tools fixed is probably a lot more important than getting the history tree updated (which isn't too out of place- it's just confusing).

I will point out that the way Shark already executes surfaces is already way ahead of Solidworks' surface geometry- which is horrible (I had to design a mobile phone casing in SW, and I almost threw the computer out of the window!!), but SW's (rainbow) Moldflow tools otoh, are second to none (or at least appear to be!).

Moldflow eze (cool but limited) was discontinued in Solidworks 2008, and Autodesk just finished the purchase of Moldflow. I can't speak for Solidworks 2008 for surfaces, but I would suspect that it still is not where it should be (based on comments from users of both Solidworks and Pro/e on Pro/e forum).

From what I see, the example in the User Manual works as advertised

Not in the PC version:

Attached is Zebra image of the surfaces produced by the G1/G2 match (zebra done in Rhino)

Tim .. is there any progress on Surface Match ?

It's really the last piece of the jigsaw in terms of being able to effectively "do surfacing work"

Not yet, but I understand what's going wrong and need to set aside a couple of days to fix. It's definitely got my attention.

Any news on a fix for the match surface problem?

Time passes by so quickly doesn't it ??

Without seeming to be nosy or whatever, it would be nice to know what things are planned to be fixed or at least a forecast.....or is it the old "mushroom principle". :(

Obviously not enough attention. 10 months is far too long for these types of problems not to be resolved. :(

heres some results before and after installing the latest build - this is a sweep open profile with two sides , I have played with infinite surfaces that cut the sweep surface to enable use of matching splines ( still annoying need to then reverse !!!). This is to create some surface smoothness ( continuity ) between the sweep outer profile and the inner surface created as a cover surf with guides -
Enclosed are my best attemtps before and after

Dare I suggest the g1 continuity is better - has some work been done ??

There are still no improvements in the surface match.

I am still waiting (well, for now).

thats a shame !!, just to liven this thread up again , surely using splines , to generate surfaces , and then stitching them into clean solids , is the engine room of the work for many users - I spend way to much time trying to either get surfaces to match , or getting surfaces to stitch . Jolyon has showed me some of the vital tricks - and i typically try lots of options (tools ) depending on the form. Please someone reassure me this is being working on .

Steve,
If you can keep posting specific files that would be great. I have a folder of examples that I am updating the algorithm from.

Tim.

Well. I have been checking, and I have yet to find where I can actually successfully have a surface match (G1 or G2) that is actually correct to the surfaces I need such a match.

I did re-check my bug reports to the bug tracker and my example posted there is still an "Open" bug.

I will ask that you post an example of a G2 surface match that actually is correct. I would specifically like to see one that is similar to the one shown in the user manual (and was at one time shown on the website,... which as now been changed,... I wonder why )

Awaiting your reply with such an example, if not forthcoming, then I will know that this function as never actually worked, (as I have thought (and posted) before.)
