I think it's time we had a preference in the dynamic rotate tool such that however you rotate your model, it still orientates with Z is up

(No - please don't tell me to keep the z key pressed down)

Other apps do this - and personally I find it far, far preferable, particularly when dealing with objects that cannot be 'tipped over' in the real world (... for example, vehicle or architectural projects), where realistic viewing and render setup will always occur with the Z AXIS LOCKED UPRIGHT

Why don't you try the navigator? There you can spin the object in steps or set it in motion to any direction. I believe you can set 0,0,0, as the point of reference and press the desired arrow in the navigator.

I'd agree with Jol for this, for the reasons he states. It would be a very useful feature.
