I have a block primitive that has been shaped (for a furniture piece back).
I am now trying to add a slight 3" Radial Bend at the end of the sheet.
I cannot for the life of me get the bend to be applied to the "correct" side of the line I have placed on the surface!!!
It ALWAYS wants to apply it to the wrong side!
My furniture piece is being "flipped" because of this bend issue!

We need to be able to have a "select side to apply bend' AND a "select direction of bend" option.

I can't see any way of applying this bend now that my whole piece is almost done!?

Can you try removing all the links and history and then try the bend? That is if there are links to remove.

I "supressed" items in the history. Helped a bit....

I still can't get it to bend in the other direction. Very frustrating. Shouldn't be this hard.

What if you changed the object type to surfaces, then stiched them back into a solid and then try the bend?

My thinking is that after preforming a series of operations on the object, it no longer nows which way is up. So by dropping it down to a simple surface and then back to a solid, it might "reset" and then be able to take on more operations.

joev,

Just tried that. Does not help.

I even made a new block primitive, and the bend command is pretty uncontrollable when it come to choosing a bend direction.

I'm going to unfortunately try a seperate part snd then boolean it back on to the end. Not the way we should have to do this operation.

One last thing that I can suggest, I read this tip about adding a line to act as the axis for the bend. Draw a line where you would like to make the bend happen (create the line right on the object). When using the blend tool, click each endpoint of the line that you drew for the bend axis. The direction of the bend will follow the sequence of the endpoints picked.

That's it for me, no more ideas!

An alternate way of working when your working with thin surfaces like sheet metal is to model as a geometric primitive (cube), apply your radiuses and then use the shell tool to remove all of the faces that you don't need. The advantage of this is that you can then alter a number of dimensions easily, including changing radius.

Can you post the file? FYI, the bend angle can be postive or negative plus press option to flip which part of the material is bended.

Tim,

Ahh the "option" command did it! And my bad that I didn't even think of angle.

Thanks!
