Getting/Changing Z Value (#3491)

I have several questions after using this software (Viacad 7) for the last 2 weeks. I'm able to use what I learned from other software to limp along, but some of this I just can't seem to figure out. I believe the search string in vBulletin is limited to more than one or two letters, so the question on Z value can't be searched. How do you get and change the Z value of an object with any precision ?

You can use the data entry fields for that. You can either set Z before you extrude a profile, or you can set Z after you extrude, but with the item still selected.
You can change the value in either the dZ box or the distance box.
In the manual that's on page 10.

Thank you for the answer. Maybe I wasn't clear enough with my question. Is there a way to click on a part and input a value. The box in the middle is currently at Z:0. From what I understand about this program so far -I only 'know' this because I just made that box - and I can highlight the bottom corner and get the value. The other boxes are at Z:2. I would like to click on the middle box, and move it to a Z Value of 4 - not using the edges of the other 2 boxes to do that.

Ah, I understand the question. You want to translate the box in the z direction. 1) Click the translate tool 2) select the box to move (if not already selected) 3) specify a start point and an endpoint. (if you have your xyz snap on you'll snap to your z axis. 4) use the data entry field to type in the exact number for dz., i.e. 4 Mike...

Thank you. In some other programs I have used, you just put the final Z value in and it was there. There was no translation - and mostly - no figuring exactly how much you have to move to get it there. Thanks again.

Hi You could try is using the precision point tool(pg 11-12 in manual). The tool is activated by hitting the crosshair icon above the i in the top bar. Then you can select an object use translate tool pick the point on object and then hit precision point tool absolute and enter the x,y,z coords you want for the point of the object you selected. In the verify menu is the xyz that you can use to find the exact coord of an point you select. Regards Jason
