On a lark, I dragged from the Windows file explorer into a SharkCAD file and pleasantly found right in the expected location some geometry in anothr file.

Been using SharkCAD since 2016 or so or as FX, and ViaCAD since 2008, and never thought to try it.

Probably a simple thing, but I'm marveling it, even though it's an old-hat trick common in Windows, or any OS.

Trying my luck, I tried to drag geometry from one file in a timed windows session into a newly-opened blank file.

No joy. SharkCAD treated the drag attempt as a move request, and moved the geometry in the opposite direction as punishment for my sin.

Version 15 SharkCad Pro "Drag and Drop" .sat, .step, and others doesn't seem to work for me anymore, if a new or open Shark file is open. I went back to 14. I have thousands of .sat files, mostly from:
https://www.mcmaster.com
If you get a notice "permission denied" when you click download, just click again. McMaster-Carr has CAD files in many formats for almost every product they sell. The CAD files are free.

I just tested this by downloading six M3 screw STEP files and dragging them all at once from my Downloads folder into SharkCAD Pro v15 (build 1722). I'm using Windows 11, and it works perfectly. It might be a Windows version issue.

In the name of intellectual honesty or such, I should say,"Always do a "Save As", after importing, and then close the instance of the file or even of SharkCAD, then re-open."

Thanks Danny,
Can you try dragging an .sat from windows desktop or explorer into an open shark file that you are working on
that has other objects?
Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,

I exported the boxes with SharkCAD v15 pro in SAT v17 (default) and v24, a JST connector from Plasticity (v25.1.7 studio) in SAT (unknown version), and another JST connector in SAT (unknown version) from Alibre Expert v28.0.4. I then opened a large SharkCAD v15 project (large - I’m not a mechanical engineer, so that’s my perspective), downloaded an M3 screw in SAT from McMaster Carr, and dragged all the files from a folder view one by one into SharkCAD. All but the Alibre SAT export were imported. However, the scaling of the SAT from Plasticity was off by about a factor of 42 (therefore a small object - the small red one to left of the screew in the attachment), and the Alibre SAT did not import—I got a model error. I also tested dragging additional files from the desktop, and it worked. Some of the imports are shown in the attachment.
kind regards
Danny

Thanks again Danny,
I usually save as an .sat 4.
Do you still have 14 on your PC?, if so maybe
give it a try with the same files.
Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,
I only have SharkCAD pro v15 (and Alibre and Plasticity) on this PC. BTW it is running Windows 11 Pro (24H2). So unfortunately i cannot compare v14 and v15 on windows 11.
On my laptop I have both but it is still on Windows 10 pro.
Kind regards
Danny
