I made a new version of a simple file that I had previously uploaded to SendCutSend to be cut from steel. It's just a plate with 10 through holes, nothing complicated. From v12 this file worked fine. I opened in in v14, exported to DXF and DWG. In all cases, SendCutSend is showing me a file with a bunch of extra lines in it, and it's complaining of non-closed polylines.

This is what the file looks like in ViaCad Pro 14, and what I'm getting when I upload to SendCutSend:

Hi Perry,
Try doing this with your part, also post
your file, if possible.

Thanks. I forgot to upload it to Dropbox yesterday so it'll have to wait until I'm home tonight but I'll give this a try and I'll upload the ViaCad project file as well.

Here's the ViaCad project file. I may not have a chance to try your suggestion above until tomorrow though.

Hi Perry,
Seems to work OK.
Didn't really check if it was inch or mm.

Did you just open my file and export it then submit or is this following the instructions posted above?

If it's my file exported directly, what version of ViaCad are you on, and what kind of hardware?

I'm on a MacBook Pro with an M3 chip and Sonoma.

Hi Perry,
I used the Silehouette Curve.
If I send something to Send-Cut-Send, I use the Silehoutte Outline
if I use the Hole Command, if I use an outline and circles for holes,
I save the outline before I Extrude the part.
I saw that you used the Hole Command.
Hope this helps, not too good at explaining.

Thanks. The thing that concerns me though, is that files made in v12 didn't exhibit this problem. I had an older version of this file that had the holes in the wrong spot. I exported a DXF and uploaded it and it was fine. Then I opened the project in v14, exported to DXF and uploaded and I got the errors above. Same file, the only difference is the version of ViaCad it was exported from.

Mostly I make stuff that goes to my 3D printer or CNC router. I'll need to test my CAM software to see if it complains too, because if it does, then I don't really know what to do here. Not all parts are as simple as this one, some are much more three dimensional. I don't want to have to work around problems in my CAD software every time I export a file.

I mostly use SharkCAD for 3D printed stuff, 3D modelling of ideas and will eventually get going on CNC when I upgrade a partially converted mill. I also use the dxf & dwg export tool, but check any parts for outsourced laser cutting using eDrawings software in macOS. I just do this to double check for errors before I email the part to them, as it's cheaper this way. :)

Hi Perry,
I am on Win 11 P.C.,I don't know too much about the Mac system.
I know they update the Operating System often, and it causes
problems with ViaCad and Shark.
Was your Ver.12 .dxf on the same Operating System as your Ver. 14 .dxf?
If you can post both files, a Mac user can verify and help.
I use Mach3 and SheetCAM on the plasma cutter, and Mach4 and SheetCAM
on the CNC mill.
.STL files on the 3D printer.
I noticed a small line on the upper left corner of your drawing.
This would cause the plasma cutter and the mill to also go to this point
on my machines.
The software will remove duplicate lines, but the short line is not a
duplicate line, and the machine will want to cut it.
The short video shows how simple it is to export a good .dxf, only takes
seconds, especially if the holes are put in with the Hole Command.

Thanks for that video Larry, that streamlines my approach to part assembly when back tracking to make laser cut profiles.
Never knew that tool existed

Thanks. I'm in the thick of a Windows install at work so I can't test now. But to answer your question:

I opened a v12 file on v12 on the Mac running Sonoma. It exported to SendcutSend just fine. I can't actually do anything with it, because v12 under Sonoma on the Apple Silicon machines is basically useless. Lots of weird behavior. But working the menus is fine, an opening the file and exporting works.

Then I brought that same file into v14 on the same laptop, exported it, and got the results above.

I'll try to take a look at this tonight because I'd like to get this sorted out.
