We use 64 bit doubles. I thought I needed to preserve 0.00000x same point tolerances for ACIS and added a pre gap test for many of the tools. But the same point tolerance appears less for curves used as closed profiles in covering, profiles, skinning, etc. I need to do more testing to understand better, but so far this looks like a safe/correctable error on my part (not ACIS).

1.) what are all the steps required to perform multiple sections and have them placed
in individual layer discussed in the paragraph at the bottom of p.92 of "Viacad Tips,
Tutorials, and Techniques" ?

2.) other than two random length line segments at a time, is there a way with the
current "join" tool to join N (N > 40) random length line segment with one operation?
the "skin surface" AND "loft surface guided" tool both require objects for input, not
collections of random length line segments...........

Thanks for your post!! unfortunately I get a "corrupt file" message when trying to view the video; don't know if it's the file or all the recent changes to Flash. any other ideas?? have you come across a list of available videos by subject/topic ??

maybe try a save as with

http://www.csi-concepts....os/SurfaceSectioning.mov

i don't have a list with available videos, but if you do a search here in the forum, a few links could be found

1.) Build 1217 is better/almost there, but still not right! Still have 1 of 50 planes
with the same problem signature (1216 had 3): Powerpack "show gaps" tool says
NO gaps; Shark "verify area" tool says no bounded area; Shark "verify perimeter"
tool reports perimeter .............. (see attached image and fault isolation file)

2.) How is the "section tool" that returns a collection of random length line segments
for the perimeter AND a bounded surface accessed?

3.) other than two random length line segments at a time, is there a way with the
current "join" tool to join N (N > 40) random length line segment with one operation?
the "skin surface" AND "loft surface guided" tool both require objects for input, not
collections of random length line segments...........

4.) my 1217 installation in a Windows 7 64-bit Pro environment acts differently
than shown in the "Surface Sectioning" video AND I'm unable to increment and
decrement through the layers. any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or what's
going on??? (see attached image)

Hi Art

In the newer builds you can use the Surface Intersect tool along with an Infinite Plane and Solid to create a surface. The resulting surface you can calc properties such as areas, perimeters and cg. You can use it to quickly check section areas.

Tim-

thanks! tried the "surface/surface intersect" tool using infinite planes as one of the surfaces and get the same result. given I have 50 infinite planes for this project, what's your suggestion for quickest way to create a "surface" on each of the infinite planes?
