I received an eps file.
Opened with illustrator (I tried CS3 & CS5), then exported to DXF & DWG .

When I import in Shark FX, I get empty layers.

Saving it as AI gives a picture in Shark.

I want splines !

Thanks

Hi jlm

I imported into SFX the dxf file and checked the include paperspace box in the import window

the geometry is on a acad frozen layer so it came in locked

next unlocked the layers

it also came in as groups (acad blocks) so I ungrouped the geometry several times to get to lines and splines

Regards

Jason

Thank you Jason !
Are you on a PC ?
On my Mac it still doesn't work.
The DXF or DWG import is just empty (0 element in layers).

I could get the splines using illustrator version8 export - import...
CS3 or CS5 wouldn't work...

I have been getting empty imports of DXF meshes randomly in Shark LT 996 and even in SP1. Imports of 3D poly lines is fine, though.

VCP 7 opens the dxf files without problem. For now, I am having to open files in VCP 7, then saving as VCP, then opening the VCP with Shark LT and saving the file as SLT.

However, unlike (or similar?) JLM's issue, I get the collapsed tree, but all the nested layers are empty for imported DXF meshes.

Try to move the DWG/DXF file to the desktop, then open SFX and import the file as DWG/DXF..

Hope it may help. - Dont ask me why if it does work all of a sudden. This is only a problem with DWG/ DXF files...

On Mac, avoid special characters (Umlaut, accent, etc) in the path and name of the file. These cause DWG/DXF import failures.

WhOAAAA....

What a minute... this is like a bug from the 90s, where when one had a file too deeply nested, then program would crash or not run the file...

Sad to report... no joy...

I tried twice, and on the 2nd attempt, closed and reopened Shark...

I even truncated the file name to just 5 letters.

File import fine en here, bot, shark fx v7 968 and shark v8 1003, the only thing is that after import, the geometry is hidden because the layer where is placed is hidden an locked, open your concept explorer, expand all the layers and, active their visibility and unlock them, then you must ungroup the logos to get the splines

In my display, there is nothing in the tree to expand.

Strangely, importing the file fails, but RAM consumption balloons to and remains at over 300MB until I process kill Shark.

This cannot continue. Please make a fix. For now, I am having to use VCP 7 to originate files, but now the video is acting just wonky enough that I have to save the files and open in Shark. As a safeguard, I now have two version a given parent DXF in Punch formats: one in VCP so I can get the DXFs having meshes, and a 2nd after I use the VCP file to generate a Shark SLT file.

Hmph...

Pretty frustrating... The problem in my case is that my Freeship layers had asterisks in the names. I used them as flags to help me more quickly find certain types of geometry I assigned to separate layers. VCP has no problem *what*so*ever, but something in the Shark code base changed, and the users were not told.

May be insignificant to devs, but it puts users through agony. Some things users do due to code limitations or built-in "features"/'behavior are not that difficult to "guess at".

DAMN DAMN DAMN me to hell.

I did *not* resolve my problem. It returned after rebooting. I suspect that something in RAM in concert with VCP and Shark being open may be "endowing" Shark LT with some ability to import the file. Well, that is my off-the-wall wish.

Later in the evening, I rebooted my computer (as suspend image was stale and the computer wouldn't properly suspend, forcing me to forcibly shut it down) and opened Freeship and edited a file. I later opened Shark LT to import some of the changes and SLT presented an empty layer.

I imported successfully some files from earlier in the day, so something in Freeship is editing text strings in the DXF. I suspect this because all I did was move a few control points around and change the mesh fineness in Freeship. This latter step of course adds far more mesh/vertex information to the DXF. I suspect that the file size is a moving target problem for SLT. FCP 7 has no problem. I don't yet have VCP 8 (I am assuming that since I upgraded to Shark LT V8, I should not go after VCP 8, right?), but I have no choice but to keep using VCP 7.

This morning, on a lark, I opened and snipped out huge chunks of the DXF file I renamed as .txt. This, as expected, produce a problem for both VCP 7 and SLT 8. Both apps imported NO geometry and both displayed the DXF file's name as a VCP and SLT layer name, with no content and no sub-level trees/branches.

I changed the file name length, and that did no good. I re-examined the Freeship layer names to verify I did not re-introduce any asterisk nor any "illegal" characters.
