Thanks: 1 times
Hi Tim, I just received a SPAM mail via a private message from the member "Peetipletbact", containing casino links etc. I suppose others are concerned, too. The message still sits in my private messages folder, if you need to see it. Bernd

This is a classic problem with phpbb based forums. The moderators really need to keep on top of it.

I feel left out, where's my spam :D Spamming on forums is always a concern. From the point of spam via PM, on the forum I moderate we dont allow a member PM permission until after they have made a certain number of acceptable (not been removed) posts to open forum, or they have received a PM from another PM allowed member. - Steve

Yes, that's a really good idea Steve :) I also help moderate another huge forum (based in the States), and we're often having problems with spammers. I think it is just part of the parcel you get with the internet. The thing is not to let the forum become too dormant.

Yes, i was lucky enough to receive a spam-mail too a few weeks back but couldn't find the time to figure out how to report it. Still don't know how to report it. Anyone care to advise? Thanks!

Post the username. I've deleted Peetipletbact from the forum.

In fact with every common forum software as e.g. SMF or IPB or vBulletin used here... a good way to block bots registering to the board is to ask a - preferrable non-language based - question as e.g. '6 x 7 =' during the registration process.
How to do this with vB is already described in the vB Community Forum.
