Is there a way to edit a solid that has been created as a result of a Boolean operation (Add or Subtract)? Set-up: 1. I create a truncated cone with a bottom diameter=1.0 and a top diameter=0.5 and a height=2. 2. I create a cylinder of height=0.5 and a diameter=1.5. This is positioned under the truncated cone. 3. I use Menu>Modify>Solid Booleans>Add Solid to create a new solid as the sum of the cone and the cylinder. How can I go back in and edit the top diameter of the truncated cone to change it, for example, from 0.5 >to> 0.75 ??? The deep selection doesn't seem to expose the constituents of the Boolean Add Solid. I have noticed that if I am subtracting a cylinder from another object (to create a hole) and I retain the subtracted cylinder, then I can edit the retained cylinder and it is linked to the modified object. But, I don't see a way to edit or retain the objects of a Boolean Add? Thanks Jess

                >>>How can I go back in and edit the top diameter of the truncated cone to Display Concept Explorer and the Inspector. Open up the part to the cone in CE. When you select the cone in CE, the Properties for the cone are displayed in the inspector. Change the value and hit apply. The boolean should update as well. Tim

If you construct cones and cylinders as skin solids between circular profiles or as polygons lathed about their axes, the solids are associative to the profiles. Edit the profiles and the solids update to reflect the change, through most subsequent booleans and utility edits like blends, holes and bosses. Construction using primitives like cones, circles, blocks etc, limits the features that can be edited, especially within agglomerated constructions (booleaned objects) and assemblies. The same applies to other shapes: blocks, are more flexible if they're created as associative solids or surfaces, like extrusions or sweeps of profiles.

Thanks - Tim!! I had not see that the Concept Explorer was also used to review the sub-parts of the boolean operations. This solves the problem of how to update composite objects. I will have to think about Zumer's point of using skin solids to build up objects like this. I am new to ViaCAD, and some of the subtleties are lost on me now. Given that I have primitives that do most of the work, I wouldn't naturally choose to construct a part out of surfaces. Thanks for the suggestion. -Jess
