Importing DWG...locked file? (#3318)

Hello everyone, I am trying to open a 2D DWG file given to me to use. It was created in Autocad & saved as r2004. When importing into VC6, the file goes through the process of being imported, it creates a named layer, but there are no sub-layers or content on the layers. In the dialog area it says 'Not opened for write'. :mad: When I view the same DWG in e-drawings, it's all there. Does this mean the DWG file is locked somehow? It does not appear to be locked when I check it on the mac, but is there some kind of Autocad lock going on in the file, perhaps? Unfortunately I cannot post the DWG due to client copyright etc. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. :)

AutoCad on Mac is it a rumor or is true? I read, the release is for October.

AutoCad Mac. Not a rumor, definitely a real product.
I had the opportunity to beta test several months ago, and was involved in user groups @ Autodesk.
My interest is SolidWorks for Mac, a native, not cloud based version.

It might be an entity type we do not support. If your client allows you to send as confidential via private email (
[email protected] ), I can look at.

Why not start your own thread for this discussion? Thanks. :)

When AutoCad will be on Mac the DWG etc. exchange will be easier... seamless. I didn't want to start a discussion about this news.:)

>>It was created in Autocad & saved as r2004. Hi Jeremy, Thanks for sending the file. It is marked internally as an R2010 DWG file. It will read into the V7 products but not the v5 or v6 products as they do not support 2010. I sent back the file translated via private email. Tim

Thank you for your help Tim.
It sounds like I need to upgrade to V7!
I had examined the DWG file by opening it up in TextEdit and compared the first six digits on the text with this chart:
AC1024 = 2010
AC1021 = 2007
AC1018 = 2004
AC1015 = 2000
AC1014 = 14
AC1012 = 13
I read AC1018 but obviously this method is not foolproof, or perhaps the sender manually edited the file, thinking that would fix it.
Either way, job done thanks to your help. :)

AC1024 = 2010 AC1021 = 2007 AC1018 = 2004 AC1015 = 2000 AC1014 = 14 AC1012 = 13 Hmm, your table is correct. I also opened the file in textedit and saw the same thing. But when I stepped through the debugger, the sdk gave ac1024. I noticed there are a variety of versions in the file including file start version. Maybe the first field is that. Tim
