It's high time that SharkCAD gets some of the following:
— Widgets or gizmos to directly mouse-wheel values to change lengths, bevels, angles, and such;
— Legal, licensed explicit permission to locally (under same user account, one-user, same machine, no remoting-in with other users, that is) run multiple instances (to whatever the local RAM can support) of the app so a crashy reference drawing can be open with taking down the main session instance, and so a usrr can keep stable zooms when referencing or editing multiple drawings simultaneously;
— Ability to drag and drop drawing parts PLUS associative matter, even BOMs and constraints and variables AS WELL AS WHOLE LAYER OR PARTIAL OR USERCHOSEN LAYERS/TREES/BRANCHES, without having to to the export-import game (as each export adds a new non-removable top layer) between cad instances and within the instance;
— A fix to get rid of the inexplicable zoom chaning when the user switches between drawings in an instance of SharkCAD (CTRL-Tab multiple drawings and watch them down-zoom);
— Make surfaces show up in the Concept Explorer Entities tab (make polygins, too, appear);
— Once and for all, for heaven's sake, make the Inspector resizable so that long repeating layer names can be distinguished from others;
— Add a search panel directly to each of the Select Mask, Inspector, and Concept Explorer, and make them independent and optionally synchronized for filtering purposes;
— Make it possible to right-click on any layer in the Select Mask and make the Inspector or Concept Explorer (or a pop-up auxiliary CE) slide that layer name into view, to eliminate endless scrolling;
— Do the above, but starting from the Concept Explorer and causing the Inspector and Select Mask synchronize;
— Allow opening a 2nd Select Mask to act as an overlay filter to create a new filtering type;
— Add spreadsheets that can capture the Concept Explorer or Select Mask so layer names can be exported to any spreadsheet (not just MS Excel!; allow export to .cav or .txt, or .xls of 1995 so any spreadsheet app can open, edit, and re-export for SharkCAD to reimport, and use that to reorganize the layers in the Concept Explorer...
...
People now are vibe-coding free CAD apps, and it's obviously sending shockwaves up and down the industry that for decades had an absolute lock (often a pure vendor lock-in effect), and the current incumbents clearly need to jazz-up their apps, soften the pricing pain, and resuce the reasons for existing and in-pure-angst customers jumping ship.
I admit I've explored FreeCAD, SolidCraft, and Blender. But, their Byzantine and sensory-overload US and feature-burying drive me nuts. It's such an easy breeze to draw in SharkCAD without needing workbenches (yes, I know FreeCAD recently streamlined things). I exported my hull curves to .iges and imported into FreeCAD, and immediately found them nowhere as usable as in SharkCAD. The too-close GUI colors and curves colors blinded me, and the inability to find my coincident (overlapping, not as in constraints tool) made me bail. Worse, the Navigation Cube labeling horridly conflicts with the reality of my geometry. The left or port side of a ship, or train, or plane is never ever the front of such a vehicle, damned be the app window/code history of the industry. (I don't wear my belt buckle off-center, and I don't crab-walk, and don't walk upside down from ceilings...) Make navigation aides match the thing being designed, however the vehicle is flipped or rotated. Or, at least allow user-determined customised labeling. Hence, I can't bother with them if they make it hard to switch.
But...
I really want to see SharkCAD continue to be a good product. It why for years, as if prognosticating the current situation, I literally BEGGED the company to do things. Sure, they seem selfish on my part. Yes, selfishly, those things WILL be great for me. But, I'm looking to lure people to SharkCAD, and that has to be converted into a win for the company.
However, I absolutely do not want to see the company incorporate AI in any way that would cast doubt on the creator of a drawing. Anyone seeking a registration of copyright and who declares what app they used for creating the art or document has to unambiguously be able to prove the app's AI features did not and could not possibly make the drawing. I'm ok with AI smoothing my bad curves, and globally fairing my spline nets. I don't want conversational features that could conspiratorially delete logs and call the app or the registrant to come into suspicion.
End rant.
