When I copy an 3D object, the result is always an acis solid. Even when copying the hole Layer. Is it not possible to do a copy of an object with all the "entities"?

Hi Kartofel,

Yes, Right clic on an object and chose "duplicate with history".
"copy as an instance" works well, but a little more complex to handle.

What I did in the past:

I selected all other 3D parts and deleted them.
Than save the file with the remained 3D part.

If things don't go the way you would find a way it could.

Object Export

Alternative way of keeping object attributes for use elsewhere

Not that you may not have already consider the following, here is an alternative way of obtaining all the attributes, but for use in an external file (not speaking about external references or X-Refs)...

Note: I only know of this working only within SharkCAD. I don't know if it will work with TurboCAD or DesignCAD.

1. Delete any layers you don't want appearing when you later on open the file after the export operation.

(Compact and inspect the file before export, but after you do a File Save-As do you protect the previous file state)

2. Selecte all the geometry you want to use outside of this file.

3. Go to the menu and select "Export".

4. Click on the box asking whether or not to include only the selected items.

5. Choose a format/file type or target extension.

6. Complete the export operation.

7. Import the file in a test file (don't explore this in your production files until you get the hang of things).

Notice that associative or other features remain with the geometry.

Note that on importation, a new parent layer (that you will not be able to get rid of) will be the parent layer of whatever you exported. Note that if you have multiple imports, each will get a new parent layer. So, this is why it's better to compact and get rid of any layers you don't want to deal with after the import operation.

Note that you won't be able to reorganize the layers to other layers outside of their current nested layer. So, organization can get super messy super fast if your imports are multilayered affairs.

This could probably be a way to set up a template for office standards to save yourself time.

This may be a better or maybe useful way than using "symbols" if your workflow is 3D objects instead of industry-standard symbology.

(Always, when importing, do a test import on a sacrificial file. After importing, do a Save-As to a new name. Close and reopen the file to be sure it can actually open without any "Error at position 132404439494..." such messages.

I get them maybe because my geometry has some corrupted elements (this is a machine that has not been online, and I didn't introduce any "foreign" files, as in files from outside of my household/from other people).)

Cheers!
