ViaCAD 1645 is crashing with the most basic procedures. Starting to think that they are not testing it with Windows very much. All of Tim's video's are on a Mac. I went to the TurboCad Mac forums. The problems people are having over there on the TurboCad mac forum is very large. You know PunchCad if you can't fix your program. Maybe it is time to call it quits. I could never ever recommend this software to anyone. PunchCad has hardly ever put out any updates for the paying customers. They just want to keep sucking money out of us. For software that is very unstable. Crashes all the time.

This is something that I can't understand. A year or so when Version 14 came out. I waited for a little while. Then I tested it. I thought it was working quite a bit better. Tim even told me he found some problems with the mesh symmetry feature. I tried it again, And it seemed like it was working much better. So now around two years into Version 14 I decided to buy it. Immediately the mesh symmetry function barely works. 1645 is crashing all the time. Its basically useless. So I paid 260 dollars to upgrade to a lemon. At least I still have version 12 1582. It works better than 1645. And how can a software get worse each day you use it???? Never had any of this garbage with all the other programs I own. Super bummed.

Just go elsewhere. I'm still on the forum to help where I can but not had the software since v11/12 which was terrible. It seems it hasn't improved.
I suspect all the times I got in touch they just got increasingly sick of me going on at them.

There is a really nice mesh software called Metasequoia 4. It gets fairly frequent updates, and it's just mesh modelling/editing. Not a mixture of 2d, 3d, nurbs, mesh, wood work, architecture and so on.

I've used it to fix so many dudd files people are finding. Hole filling rebuilding polygons etc, it's good.

Always feel bad after I rant about ViaCAD problems. I have been using it everyday a few hours a day for 4 years. I have learned so many things along the way.

First thing I did today was see if I still had a working copy of V12 1582. I was so glad to see that I still have it. When you try out a newer version it always makes me nervous. The way the serial number links to the newer wip version.

I was using ViaCAD 12 early this morning. And all the main functions work. After you get good at the workflow of this software it really is amazing.

But it is weird to open V14 1654. Draw a simple rectangle, give it some corner fillets. Then select the push pull tool. As soon as I start to pull the sketch it hesitates and then it just crashes.

So glad V12 still works. Guess my 260 dollar upgrade got me something, The parabolid tool was supposed to be in V12. Stoked to have it now. Also the axis scale tools on the gripper are amazing.

Hope they get the most recent build dialed in.

I upgraded from ViaCAD V12 pro to ViaCAD 14 pro. The link I was sent was for 1645.

I have been testing and using it everyday. I can make it crash very quick doing certain modeling steps. But I do like the newer features like paraboloid, And the gripper non uniform scaling tool.

Also tested all the rendering tools. They are nice. But the basic functionality of certain tools. especially the push pull tool. Has troubles.

I can do all these same procedures in V12 1582 with very few problems and not many crashes. I also downloaded 1654 and it is even worse on my computer.

Does anyone know if there is a stable version of V14 or are they all wip builds? I read that someone had to go back to version 1616.

Sure wish I could find one version of V14 that works for me.

I also can make V14 work if I stay away from certain tools.

To be honest, I’ve found this out too, as well as avoid cutting and pasting, as it seems to create duplicates, that confuse the history tree on undos.

Save often especially before using pull tools, but despite this I’d be lost without this software for my hobby stuff.

Most of the time, the stable versions are worse than the WIP versions. For instance, there was a faulty STEP export in a stable version for a long time, even though it had been fixed ages ago in the WIP versions. The stable versions are only tested by the devs using a different testing method, which is too expensive for them and therefore rarely conducted. Obviously, that doesn’t help at all.
