ViaCAD/SharkCAD 1651 Change Log (relative to 1649)
--Inspector being called multiple times generating annoying flashing
--Inspector not filling in data if a previous entity was selected
--Ignoring certain textures with OBJ Import
--Some mesh menus not retaining option and resetting
--Mouse Up message sometimes missed inside dialog boxes, causing an unintentional drag

Download the WIP at :

Note
Please keep in mind this is a WIP with limited testing. I would recommend you rename your existing version as backup prior to installing 1651 Mac or Windows.

Hi Tim,
1651 Shark Pro PC, still cannot select an axis for Rotate One Point, same as 1649.
I use Rotate One Point all the time, so it's back to 1641 for me.

FWIW Larry, you cannot select an axis in macOS either with 1649, as it jumps to "Work Pln Normal" when you select an axis.
Just downloading 1651, in the vain hope the non-mirrored dual display extended desktop issue with macOS has been worked on...sick of tearing tool pallets off to get mouseover functionality.

From time to time I try extended display and confirm it creates a total mess with windows and palettes.
It looses position, references and functionality, even after the display is unplugged.
I'm complaining about that too.

Though I forgot to say that many interface issues have been solved on this build.
Thank you Tim

I do find after you re-arrange everything on first opening, then save the document even if it is "untitled1", then Quit, that on the next opening up the program layouts are saved.
BTW, it was working fine for a few months after I found the right permutations in macOS Dock & Displays System Settings but now it's regressed, and I haven't found what has changed yet other than macOS incremental updates.

I did notice in build 1651 whilst experimenting with mouseover options, if I do two finger trackpad press with the cursor over a Tool icon in the Tools palette that there is a rapid flashing white square (blank tool icon background?) cascading at 5 o'clock going downwards diminishing in intensity in the drawing window.

Hi Tim,

After messing with my macOS Settings, and trying all sorts of permutations in Desktop and Dock, Displays and Control Centre, I have the Tools palette mouseover working, so I can now select other tools again. Yippee :)

It would seem that your software needs the Menu Bar Only "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" to be set to "Never" for the Tools palette mouseover to work.***
I did reset this when SharkCAD Pro was open and functionality was restored.

Other things to note, if in SharkCAD Pro the Untitled1 window is at the bottom just above the Dock, hitting the green maximise window sends it into the correct position under the top bar, so if in Settings you Save Palette and Dialog positions, then after quitting the application and re-opening the layouts and positions are as expected. This is repeatable, so if you switch this save position enablement off, the default behaviour on opening the application, is for the drawing window to always sit at the bottom of the screen with the title bar just above the dock.

For anyone else, I do have Stage Manager, Displays have Separate Spaces enabled, with my MateView monitor as the Main Display and the MacBook Pro as the Extended Display, otherwise SharkCAD top bar opens on the MacBook display.

Hope this is useful for other macOS folks using latest Sonoma build.

Mike

***Sorry this might be a red herring as I just set macOS's Automatically Hide the Menu Bar to Always and mouseover still works, but on opening you do see the SharkCAD drawing window at the bottom of the screen, before jumping up to its previous saved position.

Just a quick update

Thinking about this some more, I think it was the Logout from macOS that helped reset the Tools palette mouseover, as I have gone through all the Menu Bar Only "Automatically hide and show the menu bar " options and mouse over still works regardless. You have to Logout to get "Displays have separate Spaces" option activated or de-activated, and this makes sense, because without this option you only have one Apple menu at the top of the Main Display by default, although you can rearrange this in the Display Arrange settings.

Shell is broken. Can't select open face, the command creates shell right away.

Hi Larry

Repeated found and fixed. I'll make a 1652 after I get a few more inputs from 1651.

That's strange. I just sent you a screen recording. I tried restarting everything, no change.

Dear Claus,

On my side I used the shell tool many times today, with one or 2 open surfaces without problem.

But I understand exactly what you mean : it happened to me that select face, or edge was broken.
So far, it always came back correct after re-starting....

Other select issue :
Frequently the select tool is stuck with the "command" symbol replacing the arrow cursor.
Clicking on the palette puts it back working.

Hi jml,

not sure what’s wrong, I made a video for Tim, maybe he can figure it out.

EDIT: I made it work by trashing SFXPrefs.ini, SFXDialogs.ini and PalletPos.sys. Thanks for your input!!

Hello ZLC,

Thank you, that's interesting.

Though, with my Macbook I work everyday with extended displays, at home, at work and at customers.
With any software (Adobe, Excel, Keynotes, Pages,...), no issue, except Shark.
I mentioned that 10 years ago... I know Tim is busy on other topics.

You're welcome, JLM.

One issue I regularly stress out over is when Windows and/or SharkCAD get amnesia about my tool pallets'/palettes' positions if I power off my displays (to save power while I'm sleeping or away) and log in (too quickly ?) before or after powering up.

(I don't suspend because my laptop w/win 11 keeps waking up in my backpack, and I don't want it overheating or draining the battery. It's a horrible and stupid failing in win 11.)

Annoyingly, while SC might get the Layer Manager back onto the lower right of the two lower 21" displays, it throws the other tool pallets onto the upper, centered 27" screen.

Usually, though, if I completely log out, I'm usually happy with pallets restoring correctly. Also, if I at least minimize SC before turning off any screens, that mostly works.

I wish Tim will have the time to make an algorithm that looks at the last saved state, recognizes a sudden and uncharacteristic change, and compares the new change to the previous hundreds of past successfully-used arrangements. If a lid open/close event happens when my other three connected and working screens happens, engage the user with a choice to say "go with what I've done the most and last 300 sessions, not the sudden thing I keep abandoning and having to rearrange".

If there does exist an immutable, per-session/suspend/screen-off file, it must be being ignored. Could be SC, but I suspect Windows has a capricious hand in things.

I currently have a 3-diaplay setup, using a Targus adapter to attach via HDMI two twin displays. The teo lower ones are for:

— left: folders/docs;

— right: SharkCAD tool pallets.

— upper-centered: SC main editing space.

All three do double duty in alt-tabbing to file explorers and opened pdfs/other apps.
