At the moment to convert txt to a single line for CNC engraving -
1. Convert txt to curves/lines
2. Measure centre point of outline
3. Offset a single line to middle of the txt outline
This is a slow a tedious process. Is there another method?
Thanks

What software are you using to write your tool paths? It could be more of a pocketing operation than engraving one if it is a thicker kind of font. Have you looked at the Vectric suite of products? They have a bit of a focus on signs and engraving and a good gcode generating aspect. I have heard from guys that use it a lot say they can draw anything for signs / plaques in it. I use the aspire one sometimes, but the drawing side of things is complicated compared to Viacad. Otherwise I would write some text in viacad. Highlight it and then roll down the font selection menu in the viacad inspector and pick the slimmest easiest to engrave ones and tell the customer choose from this selection otherwise its going to cost them for programing time. The three fonts that would seem to fit what you are trying to do in Viacad from the fonts in my computer are modern roman and script.

Yeah, we're not changing CAM. The question is about the capabilities/techniques used in punchCAD to produce single line from txt?

Just as an update, I found Inkscape to be the ultimate tool for this type of CNC font work. I cant recommend this program for font work enough, as you can turn any font into a vector with one click. Path fonts import into Shark perfectly so you can implement them your design.
