Long layer names make it exceedingly tedious to find where one is in the layers when the number of layers is great.

One bizarro method I use is to prefix the suspected or "being watched" layer with "xxxx", "000000", "zzzzzzz", etc, so that when I hunt in the Select Mask, I can go right to a layer. Because the Inspector is not resizable width-wise, it sometimes is exceedingly inconvenient.

Can the Inspector finally get widthwise stretch ability?
