Hi,

for lasercutting I do need connected polylines.

I do have ViaCAD 12, but I am not able to produce these lines...

Is there a way ?

For the moment a friend of mine is producing these polylines with TURBOCAD LTE.

There it is very easy:

Select "connect polylines","delete originals", "follow chain" ....

Hello

I would use the tool Arc from Curve, and not use polylines at all. Arc are better handled by the laser, than polylines.

Does join curve applied to connected arcs or line segments and right-click "change object to.." polylines do it for you?

Hi Jason,

thanks for the hint.

I draw vectors over handsketches using "Interpolate Spline", than using "Arc from Curve", which is a very good method for lasercutting.
The factory wants to have connected lines (polylines) in an DXF-file. "Grouping" in ViaCAD does not produce connected lines.
AUTOCAD and TurboCAD LTE does this easyli.
It seems, that in ViaCAD is no way to connect the lines that way.

Joining curves to polylunes in Turbocad explodes them to line segment approximations or arcs, they don't remain curves.

Hi rockyroad_us and murray,

here I do have an example file, as I cannot upload VC2, it is in DWG ...; in addition the file produced with TurboCAD LTE

and an screenshot of the file ..

1) Original head drawn in ViaCad 12 2D, same exported to TurboCAD LTE (DXF), connected Polylines,

2) imported via DXF into ViaCad, you can see in "Object Properties", that all connected lines are named "Polylines"

3) Ungrouped object with "showing points" ... almost all circles ..

Looks to me like the group is just named polyline but the entities are still made from lines and circles. The software just names the group that way as the name implies. If you want to convert to splines, you will have to use the join command with a .0005" tolerance to have the profile as close as possible. So connecting two curves will be converted to spline. and if you want to have better control, after spline, you can convert further to Bezier. It tends to keep the curvature at a minimum deviation in this sequence. You can convert to poly lines but that will just convert to a line or lines despite being curved. Beats me why the software does that. I don't use polylines professionally, it is very elementary.

Hi bidonville,
I usually export as .dxf R12. Your file had 2 areas that had segments
that were visible in the cutting software that I use.
I traced the 2 arcs, and exported as a .dxf, should cut OK.
