I have a simple plate, put 3 holes in it, and used the assembly 'constraints' to align face to face, and hole centre to hole centre. Image 1 below.
If I then want to align using point to point, the hole at 45°, the whole part moves, totally ignoring the first hole 'constraint'. Yet the mating 'constraints' are all still in the history tree? All 3 of them, yet 1 of them isn't working right? Is this what's supposed to happen? Only I wouldn't have thought so?
What I see here is, if I start manually rotating (using the gripper) the parts rename to instance.... and so on. Which personally I don't like. I name them a certain way for a reason. So if I use these constraints, this way they don't get renamed. But from what I'm seeing, they also don't work very well?
Any thoughts on this?

In CREO we see this at times IF and only IF: the first component (I.E. your block) is assembled with "Package" (I.E. no assembly constraints) and left to float in space. Then when something is assembled (I.E. your two holed plate) to the first component and the second and/or third constraints (hole distances in this case) are not identical numerically to the first, the software will go a bit wonky and move the parts in an effort to match them.
Are your hole center line distances exactly the same on both parts? From the picture they look different.
Also, I have not done a lot of "assembly" work in Shark yet. Is there a component "lock" available to keep the first part in its position?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'll try the suggestions. I did try the lock feature, it locked one constraint, and then when I tried to lock a different constraint it locked the whole part! Probably another issue :-) But yes all holes etc are exactly the same distance apart. I'll try tonight and post back :-)

errrrrr................. basically no :-) If you lock it you can't select it. Tried adding in a solid to constrain too, and then locked said solid, and tried the same thing, another plate and aligning the holes, and it just does the same thing. I know in the likes of NX you have to nurse it round a bit, especially if you go to 180°, NX does not like 180°! But I've tried pretty much everything I can think of here, and it's not doing what I would've thought it should. If I align it to one hole, then move that hole, the aligned plate goes with it, so it must work like this?!?!?!

UGMENTALCASE....I got mine to work with a 3 point rotate. Could not get the assembly tool to rotate the part to the two holes.

Hi Dean, Yes I've used that a few times nice little tool. I'm going to try 3 point rotate, then align the faces when they are already aligned, then move the hole and see what happens. I think I know what will happen! Cheers

Yeah no that didn't work! It basically uses the last align and forgets the others. Using the 3 point align gives you a name change as well. VCMENTALCASE is building.......

Let me know when the name change is official! When I first started using Shark that name change thing boggled my head. I saw the "translate widget" and could not understand where the prt001 went. I didn't hover over that for too long and moved on to other things. Now I see it's "in there" like lemons are in lemonade. That is a goof if I have ever seen one.

Yep! I get it, should be in the history so you can go back through all steps, but then when you have a bunch of stuff on screen, and you try and select something you have moved, oh hang on the part name has gone! Unless you go and rename the 'translate' in the tree to your part number, then it shows up ok.

Is there anymore information available for this align feature I mentioned a while back? Just wondering if it should work how I mention or not? Seems strange it would forget 1 constraint but not others?
