All,
In an effort to better my Shark skills, along with keeping a promise I made to my long time friend Takatoshi Masuda who asked that I model the 2000GT, I will be creating the attached vehicle in the coming weeks/month. I believe this car was produced in the late 1960's. That is before CAD and that means created by hand with manual/human body surface fabrication and that means very, very nuanced surfaces. That is going to be the challenge on this project.
I will do my best to document the process as digitalphaser and Jolyon had asked for after my Mustang model was done. I felt my "stumbling" through the Mustang would have been difficult to document in depth. But, I learned much throughout the Mustang with help from many people. Now I think the process will be easier to document. With all software, the more we all know about the tool we use each day and the more we share that information others, the better off we all will be. Again, I will do my best to facilitate the requests.
As with the Mustang, I will be doing this in my spare/extra time. It may be a little slow but we will get to the end.

Thank you NeuTechFLA for creating serious projects specifically to share it with other users. This car has a very streamlined shape with some hard edges. I would not even risk to modeling it with a Shark. It's incredibly interesting to follow the process of your work. I hope that I will learn a lot.

I may have to purchase a new screen video capture software to upload videos of what I am doing. The old version of CamStudio I have exports monstrously large AVI files by default. When compressing them for upload/email, the images are too blurry to see properly. Until then, I will upload static images.

You not want to model a nice iPod or something : ) Brave man ! I wouldn't want to encourage you to document everything - that would take an awful lot of time, no ? ... my point was to document the processes that are troublesome (or less than smooth going) - so they can be improved !? Jol

Ha! I refuse to do any Steve Jobs inspired "flying rectangles" ever again in my lifetime! There are days when I want to dig him up a slap him in the head for killing "design" as we know it! Four straight lines with four radii....brilliant. Not!
Yes, it will take some time but I think the more I document/record/share the better off the value of the project. To your point, I will surely document the "zingers" as they bite me.

This is a screen capture program I occasionally use
(link Movavi Screen Capture) It can also record and show keystrokes in the bottom left corner of the screen.
You can export whatever quality you like

I had to go two versions back. I found it was a surface trim that was preventing the modification.

OK - this is what I find too - I save incremental versions - as you do, (which can be helpful !) - But, I more-often end up deleting the surfaces, and rebuilding - then I trust it better and I know it's 'clean' ! I wish it wasn't so [NOTE When deleting, I remove links, freeing the curve-work of any associations with deleted possible 'ghost' surfaces from previous instances that are 'not there' anymore - doing this ensures my curves are not driving multiple instances of a surface, potentially slowing things down hugely]. I wish somebody would take a look at this and tell me I'm mad ... or fix it. So what's needed ??? ... better visual status clues ?? - ie - that when an association is mysteriously lost - it results in a !!visual!! change ... so we can better try to hang on to these important driving relationships !? Jol

Build/Delete/Build Again is simply the Old School waters in which this Shark swims. I do not see another method lurking within the code to fundamentally change the way it does business. The added "New School" hurdle is the need to remove links. If I had to guess, I would say something related to the integral associative links/relationships that was added to the software years ago has created these ghosts hiding under the bed.
Again, without a fundamental code change...I don't see that going away. You are not mad in the least but it's maddening for certain.
What's needed? Hmmm... Visual is always good. In addition, it would be nice to get a clue where the stumbling block is within the model (I.E. Concept Explorer, on the model in the work area, pop up window, etc...) Something that provides specific areas to focus on instead of the guessing game. Tell me to look "THERE" for my issue.
Another cool thing in CREO (sorry to keep using this an the benchmark) is when a relationship goes pear shaped due to a regen, the surfaces will turn blue and the model tree items red. It's immediately identifiable where the problem is in the model.

So far so good.... I am learning more and more with each day.
And, I need to develop my belt line highlight a bit more crisply. My surface is too "soft". Look at the crisp horizon highlight on the red car above. Mine is not correct yet.
