Hello,

I use ViaCAD Pro since version 6 but only occassionally, so I'm little more than a beginner. Right now I'm using v10. Recently I designed 3D printed parts for my hobby robots and as these things go, I often need to tweak the parts - moving, adding or deleting features, changing/tweaking dimensions to get something that is both printable and works in the real world. I usually start with 2d contours and apply 3D transformations (lofting, one-rail, two rail sweeps, etc.). I also try to design symmetric objects using mirrors.

My problem is, when I try to change a model, the ACIS kernel usually fails to regenerate the features, and I cannot change the modeled part. I have to break it down to curve level, and rebuild the solid by applying the transformations again. I assume that this is because my design approach is somehow wrong.

I'd like to ask you for tips or a guide regarding this topic, or just how you approach this problem. Thank you for any feedback.

I too have difficulty, but I've found that suppressing updates can help, it will at least stop it trying to rebuild everything at once. Or I have had to, for example if I've created a shape of curves ( non are joined for other reasons)I've basically redrawn the shape, including the mod and used the replace curve function.

Another option I've found. I was messing around with a pin. We do a lot of pins, and sometimes they need changing. If you have joined all the curves, if you use 'show points' you can manipulate each end of a curve. A nice little feature, but if you have something at a bizarre angle, or something other than planar, it becomes tricky as you are trying to move it in x, y & z positions.

I also draw my models only for 3D-printing and as we know, 3D-printing has an inaccuracy up to +/- 0.2 mm or more.
The picture shows a always present problem: a bold doesn't match to a hole.
Instead changing the construction (because the history is loosen when closing the program) I try to improve thickness using the Thicken-Command what is also working with negative values (reduction). Annoying blends you can delete before by using the Deep Select

.. to be continue ...

I've just been experimenting with the N-Sided polygon. Really nice feature. This allows mods. With the shape you create, you basically get a list of control points, which you can edit, and then apply once edited. It does mean you need to think a little more about sizes on your part, but works really well.
