given a 3D solid model with a 3D spline curve for a center line. does Shark FX 9 provide a means to create "N" equally spaced planes normal to the 3D spline curve center line?? if so, what tool(s) are used? thanks

Do you mean the tool Path Duplicate, while holding 'option' to reference surface normals?

macnavi-

thanks!! not exactly but FAR closer than my brute force approach!! the quadrants of the circles can be used to create infinite planes for sectioning. which tool did you use and where is it found??

This is the tool I described in my first post, the path duplicate.

1) Create a spline
2) Create a circle and have the edge touch the start of the spline
3) Create horizontal line
4) Select Path Duplicate tool
5) Insert quantity in the tool information menu (horizontal bar above main window)
6) Follow instructions in the information menu:

A) Select circle (if already selected, it will skip this step)
B) Select translation path, ie spline
C) Select copy origin, ie start point
D) Select two points for alignment axis. This is the angle the copied circles will have. That's where the horizontal line comes in. Click somewhere on the line, then click at the end of the line. You see the line in my example.

Now you should have your circles. If you don't deselect, you can still change the number of circles and it will adjust the amount on the spot.

You can use the Skin Solid tool to create a tube around the circles. Then if you change the size of one circle, the tube will adjust accordingly.

Hi Art

Try the Infinite Plane : Along Curve tool and specify the number of planes.

thanks!! had never noticed the dialog boxes................

Antoine-
thanks!

sectioning is now working if perimeters with greater than 35 pieces for a hole with approximately a 1.25" ID is working..... HALF of the perimeters joined to date will NOT close! the PowerPack verify "Show Gaps" and "Show Overlaps" tools show nothing wrong??? do I have something set incorrectly or is there something else going on? being old school, I'm expecting closed perimeters that will yield "areas".....

am I the only one to be having problems with Shark FX 9's sectioning tool and irregular shaped solids??

Hi Art

Could you post the solid that you cut? It looks like an example section has 40+ splines. That would imply the solid has 40+ faces.

Hi Art

Many thanks or the file. It appears I was over testing the gap tolerance at six decimal places.

I lowered the gap test to five places and ACIS seems to accept that size just fine for covers, extrusions, profiles, etc. I am going to check more files and if all goes fine will be in the next upload.

thanks for the update! 32-bit single precision, 32-bit double precision, 64-bit single precision, or 64-bit double precision arithmetic?? let me know when when the regression testing has been completed to your satisfaction; both port projects are blocked until updated code is available. down loaded a copy of AeroPack this morning so that will keep me out of trouble for a day or two................
