included is another example of an "error message" in
desperate need of fixing. the current message provides NO actionable information AND NO clues on what or where the problem is or might be ,,,,,, given nothing else to try, using the "connect curve" tool on all of the line segments making up the hatch region perimeter had NO effect....................

Hi Art, This is just a guess, but all lines might be connected, but being a diameter they are not in the same plane. Try a Model to Sheet, and section the part. Larry

Hi Art
If you want to watch 8 minutes of "incredibly boring video" you can observe some fun I was having with the cross hatch tool a while back. :-)
I did come up with a bit of a work around.
All nominations for best technical documentary for the Academy Awards will be gratefully accepted. :-)

guys-
thanks for the feedback; it's obvious I'm not the first hiker in this minefield. unfortunately neither suggestion worked for my situation; the drawing was done completely in 2D.
in the spirit of being more "constructive":
1.) upgrade might include highlighting in color "what" the tool found in error situations
2.) and/or highlighting(improved dialog box message)
the "problem" it detected
OR 3.) upgrading might be simply adding a
manual option that enables the user to select in CW or CCW order a series of lines/curves that form the closed area to be hatched.....
an error message that effectively says "sorry" is simply unacceptable for a professional level software tool.

Hi Art,
Didn't have your file, but the one I made worked O.K.
I don't know what version you're using, I'm on the PC SharkFX 1195.
Could be a MAC issue.

Hi Art We would need a file with just the curves you used to hatch to figure out how to improve the error message. Tim

the configuration of the file that would NOT "Hatch" no longer exists; design changes unrelated to the hatching problem were required. both new configurations "Hatch" properly.
under the heading of "guess", there were probably
extra line segment(s) present from either construction or an evolving design. that makes at least three conditions that are currently reported as "
Valid Hatch Region Not Found ":
1.) gaps
2.) points out of plane
3.) extra lines

here's another example with the associated file. playing "fetch a rock" with a piece of professional software is not my idea of fun or professional..........

Hi Art There are several near zero radius circles on the hatch boundary that prevent this from hatching. It looks like you intentionally put them there to add annotations. I updated the software to ignore near zero length curves in the next update. In the meantime, you can either hide the circles or use the "Shift" option and select the hatch curves to hatch this region. Tim

Tim-
deleting the three circles after checking for "spares" does not fix the problem. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "Shift" option so tried two approaches: 1.) select the "Hatch" tool, then press and hold down the "shift" key, and then select each of the lines that comprise the boundary of the desired hatch region; and 2.) press and hold down the "shift" key, select all of the line segments that comprise the boundary of the desire hatch region, and then select the "Hatch" tool. neither worked so either I don't understand what to do or there's something else going on besides 0.0001 diameter annotation circles........
Art
[email protected] IGNORE: another circle found in a corner has been deleted and now the Hatch tool works!
