Hi,

I'd like to model a dome shape formed (stamped) from a wire mesh.

And I'd like to make a convincing hi-res rendering of it.

What is the best way to do it?

The mesh in its flat form is shown in the attached photo.

Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark

Do you need the actual 3D geometry or just a final rendering? You might be able to make a texture or decal.

Hi Tim,

I need a rendering - but a really good one.

I use KeyShot.

Also - my image is low res but I could search for a better one.

Hi Mark,

It reminds me of a "braided" pattern we had to model on a conical surface.
After many attempts with Shark, Rhino, T-spline, we finally made it in SolidWorks and re-imported the surface in SFX...

Jim,

Your model looks great and thanks for your reply.

I'm looking for a simple solution to my problem. I don't have much time for experimentation before my deadline.

Hi Mark,

i don't know if i understand it correctly, do you want to have a dome which looks like built from a grid, or should it have a fine braided mesh as surface such as antoine´s keyshot link?

Thanks, Antoine, that's really great and it's exactly what I'm looking for.

I hope I can find it in Keyshot cloud.

Hi Defkon,

Actually more like your dome or perhaps a cross between yours and Antoines.

Would you mind emailing your sfx file to me at [email protected]?

Thanks.

A dome pressed from rectangular mesh will be m x n cartesian rather than radial, IMO. I think the viewpoint will dictate how much you can get away with.

Thanks, I think you're right.

I'll take a look at that.

Can't you map a mesh image to a dome shape in Keyshot?
