I have a 3-D 1999 face skull made for me. Being that is under 2000 faces, I can convert this 3-d Skull.OBJ file into a solid. Only problem is I am trying to have the 3-d skull not faceted but have a smooth solid as I make molds and need a smooth face to machine into the mold so the molds slide out easily without being stuck. Is there a trick or tip to make the faceted skull into a smooth face in VIACAD 2D/3D?

The Edit : Change Object Type (Mesh to Solid) stitches facets into a collection of closed planar faces solid.

To convert to a smooth NURB you would need to use the SubD to NURB tool in PowerPack Pro. Below is a video showing this tool on a 3D Skull converted into NURBS with G2 continuity across the skull.

If you have a mostly quad based model, you could download the ViaCAD Pro with PowerPack beta and give it a try on your model.

If it is mostly triangles, you might need to use retopology on the mesh before SubD to NURB

Tim, again the Power Pack is very nice ...but why a retopology module isn't included ??? Almost models mesh on the web are in triangle !! We need a third part software like 3D coat to really perform with Power Pack.

It's a big task to add auto retopology and I'm not aware of anyone licensing it.

Encore licenses the SubD to NURBs technology from IntegrityWare. I know they did some attempts at it, but said it was not ready for release.

Encore also contacted Dassault regarding adding retopology to their mesh modeling tools.
