having started the lofting approach, the source of at least some of my problems is becoming clearer. the Project Curve Surface tool is producing THREE (3) curves and NOT one projecting an ellipse created with the three corner Ellipse tool or constructed with an arc approximation (better control of leading and trailing edge radius)......
