starting with a primitive ellipsoid solid, a solid cylinder is created such that one of the ends of the cylinder passes through the center of the ellipsoid. the solid cylinder is subtracted from the solid ellipsoid expecting to get half of an ellipsoid. instead something closer to a quarter of the ellipsoid is left................. anyone have any idea(s) on what might be going on. I don't "need" have of an ellipsoid; it was being created to support "process development" (aka: operator training) for bending of tapered asymmetric sections about an axis not passing through the section. thanks in advance for an idea(s) or suggestion(s)

I always try to reproduce a problem - that's learning by doing.
To substract the cylinder from the ellipsoid is running always well for me. I have build the parts on different ways but there is no issue.
Additional I have learned, that I can cut out a ring of the ellipsoid when it is looking through the cylinder on both ends. By holding the Control-Key all parts stay over.

Horst-

thanks! based on your post I tried creating the cylinder "on-axis" and the subtraction yields the expected result! initially I'd created the cylinder "off-axis" to make sure the correct plane was created after creating the solid ellipsoid. may be a case of an "on-axis" algorithm being used with a missing translation to "on-axis"......

Hi Art

FYI, I have a bug report logged in with Spatial regarding booleans with ellipsoids.

Tim-

thanks for closing the loop! not a big deal all things considered since the work around is so easy.

FYI, Spatial confirmed they could repeat this evening. They are looking into a correction.
