Is Punch!Viacad Version 9 compatible with Mach3 version 3.043.066? will it export to a G code?

Mach3 is a machine controller software that converts G code to control the movements of the machine. If the machine is
a plasma cutter for example, it will move the torch along the X and Y axis, and on some machines raise and lower the Z axis.
If you are doing 2d flat pattern cutting, ViaCad9 should export a .dxf file that can be opened or imported into a CAM
program, such as:
http://www.sheetcam.com/
which will output the G code needed for Mach3, with a file extension .tap

Another good option that I regularly use for creating my G-Code is d2nc. It integrates very well with Mach3 and even offers a custom Mach3 screen that makes it accessible within the controller. It is also very affordable. I definitely recommend looking at it and trying it out.

ViaCAD v9 is CAD^2 and will export formats that almost all CAM programs can convert to G-code. it does not in and of itself have the ability to create G-code as that is a another kettle of fish (CAM -Computer Aided Machining software). Depending on what you are using it for depends on which version of CAM software would be best for you and they can range from Free to rather expensive. Please feel free to ask if you need further information.

Two years ago I was stuck looking for a design software that had CAM functionality. I'd been an owner of Via Cad for several years before that (I think I started using at version 6). I was fairly unaware of the entire process of creating Gcode and running a CNC mill. So I ended up wasting quite a bit of money on software. Not that what I've ended up with is bad but I could have had a mill running much less expensively and used Via Cad which I already owned a license for. So the question here is, what to do about making Gcode to run Mach3. Well the author of Mach3 also has an inexpensive Gcode generator called CAMBAM available that I've recently been using because it has a tab feature that my expensive software doesn't have. However, the Gcode CAMBAM creates also seems to run my mill better then my original software could it be optimized for Mach3? At present CAMBAM is $149.00 with a forty use trial. A resourceful person does not close this program and will sleep their computer to stretch the trial out. It takes some effort to learn, I would call it a moderate learning curve. Save files from Via Cad as .dxf. I'm hoping this post will help someone like myself in the future.
