                Hi there
I am a bit of a beginer to Cad drawing but I am trying to apply a one rail sweep solid to a helix spline that has been applied to a control point spline.
I keep getting a message. The sweep results in a self-intersectng surface:
I have tried various settings: Sweep Perp, Curve extents, OPTIONS, I have tried mitred bend and crimped. No Twist or Draft.
I am using
Shark FX
Version:	8.0.3
Build:	1028
I would appreciate any tips or tricks to make this work
Any help appreciated
Thanking you
Mark

hi, for "one rail sweep solid" you need to select a closed curve (a profile) first. the path is selected in second step. what was your profile? could you post a file or more pictures to understand

Hi rokoko Thanks for taking a look. I have attached the file to the post above. I understand the process you described, I used that to sweep the goose neck. Its the spiral support spring that is not taking the sweep. Its the 3mm circle I am trying to apply. Thanks

                hi,
i tried something, but could not manage this in viacad pro, even by using a new circle, snapped to endpoint of helix (using c-key to get correct workplane there). notice you can select some options in one rail sweep solid tool. e.g. "allow self intersections".
try also to remove links from the helix and/or change object type before sweeping. seemingly there is bug.

Hope this what you were looking for. Move the small circle by selecting center, to the endpoint of your helix, do a 1 rail sweep. See file or .jpg
Larry
Sorry can't upload the .sfx file, after the sweep, the file is too big to upload.
Remove the .zip extension from the .sat, as .sat is not allowed to upload.

Hi rokoko and Larry. Thanks for looking into this. Larry, that worked for me as well. I thought I had gone through all the possibilities. I just retied that from the other end. It gives an error message when I used a larger diameter, (10 mm, which I started off with) but works with the 3mm diameter. Anyway, that's great, Thanks

Okay I think I've got it. A self intersecting curve must be when the extruded shape blends into itself. So in this case the spiral diameter is 13mm anything over 6.5 mm will touch or blend into itself and keeping in mind the pitch too close together will also blend necessitating a smaller diameter. Just as a observation, Looking at the helix or spiral generated it looks like it isn't an evenly spaced pitch? and perhaps relates more to the control points rather than an evenly divided length. However for my situation, I am happy with the look of the thing so thanks for the help.

on a macbook pro (mac os 10.9.5) viacad pro (1163) crashes during that operation, unless i activate "allow self intersections".
