I am having trouble trying to cut out a shape from my material in VIACAD 2d/3d V9. I have a 4" long by 3" wide by .313" thick plate. I want to cut out 1/16" thick "S-type Wavey" patterns that run across the top of my material. They will cut down into the material 1/16" as well. I start off by making an extruded 4" x 1/16" x 1/16" extruded rectangle, but I do not know how to bend the extruded rectangle into "Wavy Patterns". Is there a way to bend the extruded rectangle, or is this something I have to do by drawing the "Wavy patterns" in 2d and than extrude into 3d?

Hello Draw the shape in 2d first then you can use cutout tool or extrude and subtract shape from the plate. Regards Jason

How do I draw the S-type wavy pattern in 2d?

You can use the spline tool for the "S" shape, offset, linear duplicate, extrude, and then subtract.

Oh Wow,
That is exactly what I'm trying to do. when I create using the spline tool, How do I create the "S"Shape like that? Also how do I use the offset? I know how to linear duplicate, extrude and the subtract, but I don't know how to use the spline tool to create "S"Shape and I do not know how to use the Offset. Thank you for your time and can't wait for your reply!!

Offset by distance, type in .063, an then select which side of the line you want to offset.

How did you get the grid pattern to follow the dots and where do i go to enter the offset?

For some reason, I am not getting this. Where is points along a curve located? I try to use the spline tool by control point spline and my S pattern looks nothing like that? How do i get that grid with the dots like you have and how do I make it in that S pattern?

                hi,
the tool ist located in the points-tool, see picture. first draw a simple line, next choose points-along-line with settings as needed and select your line

perfect, got that thanks, Now when i try to offset by distance, how do i pick which direction? I try to click on below the curve or above it and nothing happens except the S curves turn red as if i selected them, and than when i click a direction it just unselects the S curves? How do i pick the direction?

How do I select the side of the line I want. I made the S wave form but when I offset by distance and it tells me to pick which side, I click the mouse on whatever side, but it just deselects the wave form and asks me again to pick the wave form and pick which side again? Is there an option where to pick which side or do I just click my mouse on that side?

Do I have to use the points-tool for the offset to work properly? Because I made the "S"Pattern with just using the spline tool without the points-tool. The only problem is when I try to copy the "S" pattern and use the offset tool, it asks me to select the Curve I want to offset so I select my one "S" Pattern I just made and my "S"Patter turns red. Then it asks me to select which side of the spline curve I want to place the offset and when I mouse click above or below my Red Selected "S"Pattern, it de-selects my "S" pattern and then asks me to again to select the spline curve I want to offset. So I have no idea how to select which side to place the offset? I would have thought that you would select with just the click of the mouse either below or above the selected spline curver I just made. Please help!
