how or what setting do I need to change so that after drawing a sketch, when i go to dimension the lines. they stay connected at
their endpoints. right now when i set a length, the changed line breaks connection with the other lines.

thanks for any help

Hello

It sounds like you have selected a line and changed its length. Are you trying to change the dimension value to something different than the true value of the line that was drawn?

If you are trying to change the dimension value other than default you have to select the dimension, hit ctrl I or open the inspector by right clicking on the dimension number and picking inspector. Then clear the # out and put what override value you want.

Jason

that worked , but it keeps the line angles and lengths of the other undimensioned lines the same. is that something that i have
to dimension as im drawing, before the other liines are drawn in?

What program and version are you using?
The drawing of objects and lines should not effect dimensioning and dimensions should not effect anything that is drawn. Draw all your geometry to the size you want then add dimensions last after everything is drawn.

Can you post a pic of what is happening.
