I would like to know what is the best way to import a solid works file into ViaCAD Pro 9? Most of my friends use PC's with Solidworks. I chose ViaCAD and love it, but I am running into a problem when they bring over their sldprt files. How do I convert these in order to import them in ViaCAD?

I guess I should have been a little more specific with my question. I need to know how to take a physical .SLDPRT file and import it into ViaCad Pro without having to use Solidworks to export it. Are there other programs out there that will do this conversion for me? Will ViaCad do this if renamed, etc.?

VCP as a consumer product does support the neutral 3D CAD exchange formats (Acis SAT, STEP, IGES) only. The native document formats of other 3D modelers as e.g. the import of documents in the proprietary SWX format is supported by Shark FX 9 f. Windows only (s. tab 'File Compatibility').

3D CAD converters can do as e.g.:

Delcam Exchange
TransMagic
3D-Tool

or use the cloud-based Fusion 360 for doing this.

renaming the file extensions does obvioulsy not change the content of the file resp. the file format.

I have just started with ViaCad10, and have had the same needs. I use GRABCAD Workbench. They have a video on the site on how to use it
