Hello, I've Noticed that I can draw shapes such as rectangles or circles inside others rectangles and circles and when extruded the shapes are cutout. But I tried to draw out two circles and joined them by two drawn tangent lines and then trimmed the inside lines. The remaining shape was an outline that resembled a keyhole. When extruded, this drawing is not cut out like the preset circles and rectangles, how come? Thanks again.

Can you post a pic of the example your talking about?

Hello, I am still learning the forum interface, when I try to click the insert image it only goes to an url and not to a file on my computer. I can give a quick example. I extruded a circle, then in top view in wire frame mode on top of the extruded circle, I drew an arc line and then attached a straight line to the bottom of it to form a semi circle. I would like to be able to either extrude or cut a hole with semi circle that I drew. Thanks

Use the cutout tool to remove the material from the cylinder in you example. The key is making sure you have the geometry on the correct plane. Goto to the workplane menu and turn the workplane on so its visible. The "c" key is alos a shortcut to quickly toggle the workplane.

Jason I think I understand what you are saying. For example in my picture the keyhole shape is on the bottom of the disk, and in order to extrude or cutout it needs to be on the top plane. I tried hitting the c key and it moves the plane all over the place. so I still am not getting this correct.

It's ok that the keyhole shape is on the bottom, you can still use the cutout tool. You can pick the vector the cutout tool uses so it cuts from bottom to top of cylinder.
The "c" key toggles thru the workplanes as you keep pressing the c key.
The keyhole you have should be able to be cut with the cutout tool.

Griff Make sure you have the option "vector" selected on the drop down when the cutout tool is selected. The you can pick the btm of cylinder at the center snap or quadrant snap and then second pick point would be at the top of the cylinder at center or quad parallel to the one you picked on the bottom. Maybe the shape itself is the problem. Here is what happens, I grab the cut out solid tool and left click on one of the keyhole lines. I am given the option in the first posted picture. The entire shape will not light up, just one line at a time. Then it gives me the error in the next picture. Also, how do you pick the vector.
Thanks
And sorry for so many questions.

Rt click on the Line and pick select chain as you have to have all the lines selected to use as a cutout. After that you will be prompted to define the vector first pt and second point

If you selected chain while in the tool instead of picking a single like it might be that the lines making the keyhole shape are not all connected.

I figured out that I can get it to highlight when in the selection tool (black arrow). When I click select chain it does highlight the entire chain, but does not give me the vector prompt. I doubled checked the line connections I think they look good.
