Hi community, this is my forst topic, therefore forgive me please if any mistakes. I have purchased Viacad 2D/3D 9 and when trying to open DXF or DWG files (to further edit them) I have the following problems: 1. some layers from the original file are missing. Is there any way I can retract them 2. layers are spread all over the window, so I have to manually collect and put them together again. How can I open exactly as the original file? Thanks a lot for now! Regards Gaya

Hi Gaya
It should preserve the layers on import. If you zip and send me the file, I can check.
Thanks
Tim

Hi Gaya
That looks like a path on your local machine.
To attach a file, try and use the "Attach files to this post?" under Options.
Tim

Hi Tim, the only option I have under my post window is: Watch this topic and receive notifications of activity via e-mail? Is it somewhere else?

The DWG import is bringing in one inserted block with many nested blocks. By default, we delete all empty layers and it's only seeing the block layer.
I've added a new option in the DWG Import for "Preserve Empty Layers". With this option checked, it will keep all the layers. The individual layers will only show objects in the layers if you ungroup.
This is in the next upload.

Hi Tim, thank you so much for this. How can I update my Viacad to have that additional option? I have tried on my computer just before, and the only option for DXF/DWG imports is "Include paperspace layout". Thanks again!

so not empty... option should maybe set as default especially if entities, even grouped ones, are residing on them.

btw, for checking and also converting DXF/DWG documents the free
Teigha Viewer for Windows/OSX/Android might come in handy for.

AutoCAD lets you have a block/insert where individual elements have their own layer. For ViaCAD/Shark these get converted into groups where all elements of the group display in the group layer. On my list of things to do is to create a AutoCAD like block/insert entity. It will solve more then a few compatibility issues. Tim

Tim
This is very exciting news and a huge efficiency saver if blocks entities are allowed to be edited and all instances of block in a drawing get updated. As well as having line style control by block as well.
Thanks

Hi Tim, I am still waiting for your reply as how can I add the additional "Preserve Empty Layers" you have created recently for opening DWG and DXF files into my already installed/purchased ViaCad 2D/3D for Mac? Thanks!

>> how can I add the additional "Preserve Empty Layers" It is in beta builds and if no one finds an issue, in the next English service pack. Encore has development currently working on the Shark FX release. Last week we released the ViaCAD German service pack to Encore. The ViaCAD English service pack should follow, but I don't have the release date. Tim

That is a pitty, so I can not carry out my work at this stage. I can not find any link on your website for service pack downloads. When the English version is released, how can I download the service pack? Thanks, gaya

You're invited to participate in the beta. Participating may also help ensure I've fixed the problem before it is released. You can download betas at:
http://www.punchcadlabs.com/page7/page7.php I believe 1138 is available for ViaCAD Pro and Shark FX.
>>When the English version is released, how can I download the service pack?
From inside the app, select Current Version within the Help menu you can get the current released build.

Hi Tim again, I do not seem to find a current version option in my help menu. Is it somewhere else within the application? Thanks! Gaya
