Ok, dimension text now appears, though still no arrowheads or tick. However, now how do I get the dimension text to follow the same angle as the dimension line? I did a vertical dimension, and the text remains horizontal.

HI Jfc

got dimension menu --> select format --> break in and that will give you what you want.

upload a sample file and I will look at the dimensions. when you post scroll down to additional options and there is a button manage attachments click that and then you can attach files or pic

I started with an empty drawing, then followed your directions.

Are you saying I have to accept that the first dimension will be wrong and to just live with it?

No, just tried it again. This seems to be part of the buggy nature of this software.

I am using Archtectural units, feet, inches, and 16ths.

When I run a vertical dimension, the text comes in horizontal. I simply want the text to be allined with the dimension line. Is that or is that not possible with Viacad?

I did exactly as you showed. Text still came in horizontal. I guess it is something that v.5 cannot do

So what is going on here? I went into the file you sent, did a vertical dimension, and the text came in horizontal.

when a file opens it defaults to the current dim settings the user is using I believe. this is v5 behavior I think.
The important thing is you can get what you want it just needs setup, I will help you set some dimension defaults.

Jason,

Now you can see part of why I am getting so frustrated. You people keep telling me something should work. I follow instructions to the letter, and it still does not work.

I'm tired, my head hurts, and I'm giving up for the night.

As far as you are concerned, thanks. At least you have been trying to help me rather than acting like I'm the moron because the software does not respond the way they say it should.

By the way, a reboot made the compatibility mode to work properly. Thanks for that also.

Don't worry I will help you set up dimension standards, I will make some instructions tomorrow. I use ViaCAD 2d v5 at work alot. Believe me in the end once you get through the interface and what works and doesn't work you will see how much easier ViaCAD is to use vs an Autocad type program. Yes there is some bugs but they have been getting taken care of pretty quickly. The dimensioning is still in need of some work but it is adequate and you can make it work how you want if setup properly.

I have used Autocad since v9/10 and ViaCAD has quite a different interface to get used to, but in the end if you stick with it, you will see why so many people like it vs many other programs.

Just to let you know, I started using Autocad v1.13 back in the old DOS days. Took two days to learn how to use it. Been trying to learn Viacad for 4 months now. Still can't get it right.

Shoot, even things like trying to include the jpeg that I attached earlier into the body of my post didn't work like the instructions said it should. No arrow next to the attached file name.

We will try again tomorrow.

I just figured it out. This may help with later users with the same question.

Leaving the text font set to the default forces the text to come in horizontal. As soon as I changed it to Arial, the text changed its rotation to be alined.

Just to be clear, I had followed all the options found in the tutorial, and in your file. It is apparently tied into the font type somehow.
