Mirror, linked may have been discussed previously, but....

Mirror, Linked is awesome. I just learned of it today during lunch. As with the regular mirror tool, click the tool, select the objects to be mirrored (or, vice versa), pick an axis, select the mirror point, and make any post-action inputs.


I used to use the Ctrl key to make a copy of the source side. Now, I just use mirrored linked so that moving one part moves its sibbling part. This may or may not be ideal in some situations, but where symmetrical work is important, this is neat. Deselecting the "copy" function check box frees up my left hand from the Ctrl key.

I haven't yet tested to see if moving points along the way axis mirrors those changes to the mirror, linked side. Sounds like it will, but i need to see for myself.

I concur. I've found that using the mirror-link tool in conjunction with constraints works wonders! Quite powerful indeed.

When i can get back into my CAD disk (I'm currently updating PCLinuxOS on my laptop and the new disk is in it), I'll check. IIRC, you may find differences if you right click on a parent and r/c on a mirrored part. One will be minus a data tab. So, you may not be able to thicken/rethicken/thin a solid. Mirror might act as a copy and do the same thing. I'll look closer later and either confirm or debunk my statement I'm making here (unless someone beats me TO me, hehehe...)
