1)

I have a simple object that I have created. I am trying to position it precisely. I have turned ALL the snaps OFF. Yet, when I move the object, ViaCAD acts like I have the "Snap to Grid" check box set.

The object "clunks" from one grid space to the next (even though ALL snaps are OFF).

2)

If I draw a rectangle, with "grid" in the snaps menu turned on, I notice that my lines are sometimes a little to the left or to the right of the grid. Further, as I copy the rectangle, the copies will sometimes end up in the middle of a grid line.

I thought that if the grid snaps were on, lines "HAD" to be right on top of the grid lines.

It looks like a bug if you enable snaps and just turn off grid its stops snapping to grid if you disable all snaps the grid snap stays active.

This might just be visually anomalies the lines are located at precise point but the display on screen might look slightly different based on thickness of grid lines vs line drawn thickness.

How are you copying the rectangles ctrl drag or translate tool? Whta size grid and how many subdivisions are you using?

I think it is a bug also. As a work-around I am forced to make the grid sub-spacing very small (64 x 64). Snap to grid is OFF.

I copy by dragging. Grid is 1 x 1, the subdivisions I started with are 4 x 4, and 8 x 8. But I am now FORCED to constantly change the subdivisions in the preferences to 64 x 64. This really slows up my drawing.

Hi

You could try setting a keyboard shortcut to toggle grid snap on /off, as needed rather than trying to change grid subdivisions.

If you disable only grid snap then you can precisely snap to other points.

Well, I'm extremely frustrated. I am drawing at about 1/10 the speed I could achieve with ViaCAD V5 3D. Almost EVERY line, and EVERY edit is a battle.

I am now using ViaCAD V6 2D (6.0.0). Sometimes I think this version of ViaCAD (V6 2D) maybe more buggy than the 3-D version.

Look how confusing it is to purchase.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_...words=ViaCAD+mac&x=0&y=0

I actually purchased two copies, one for my Mac Pro, one for my MacBook.

With the version of my software ending with ".0.0" it's GOT to have bugs.

Should I buy something “more popular” hoping it's better tested, and just flush the money I have already spent?

Thanks Jason,

I seem to be making some progress on some issues.

My number one annoyance is that when I turn snaps OFF objects still increment on the grid.

I will e-mail support. Thank you for helping me also!

Why do you need to turn off all the snaps?

Punch software has confirmed that ViaCAD can sometimes NOT "unlock" from Snap to Grid. Apparently this bug exists in all versions of ViaCAD and Shark.

As a work-around, they showed me how to use "Nudge" to move objects small distances.
