How do you export just one layer. (#3667)

I have 2 ViaCAD drawings. I want to take just one layer from one drawing and copy it to another drawing. The layer I want to copy is a sub-layer. I ONLY want the sub-layer, not the parent.

Select only the items you want to export, then use
Selected Only in the export dialog and export to Shark or ACIS SAT.
Export to Shark will preserve your layer structure and part history, but give you a bunch of layers that you don't want. Open the exported file, then go File / Compact and delete empty layers, or just select everything you want and move them to Layer 1 (Select All, then Inspector, Object Properties, Attributes, Layer) and then manually delete all the other layers.
Export to ACIS SAT will export only the selected, but you will loose part history. The file you export will have no layer structure.
Yes, Layers are broken.
Yes, Shark export is broken.

Thanks Nick, I think I might be making some progress, WITH YOUR HELP! I decided to go with "Export to ACIS SAT" because I don't care about the part history. Also, I think I am trying to eliminate layer structure as well. When I exported using "ACIS SAT" I had many sub-choices (1.5 - 18), I tried version 17 because it was the default and version 18. What should I have used? There were other choices when exporting using "ACIS SAT" like "Mult File check-box" (did not check) and (End of Line). I used "Mac" for End of Line. When I imported the .sat file into my other drawing it appeared to merge with an existing layer. I found that I was able to select various objects and move them to a new Top Level layer. NO MORE sub layer's for me! I left the big problem until the end. The layer that I am exporting consists of only lines and text. The lines all "show up" in the import, but none of the text (there is a lot of text that would take days to re-enter). How do I get the text to "show up"? using MacPro, OS 10.6, ViaCAD 2D, V6 Thank you for helping!

ASIC SAT If you are going ViaCAD V6 to ViaCAD V6 use the last listed (highest number version) although any will work. MultiFile will put each part (solid) into a different file so you do not want that. If you are going to a Mac, use Mac (LF) if you are going to a PC use (RC/LF). If the file will be used Mac and PC use the PC setting.Text Text output is always problematic. For drawing / 2d files try either DXF or DWG, you will have to mess around with various settings to fid what works in your circumstances.

Nick, thank you very much for trying to help me. I did come up with a procedure that seems to work. In reading practically every post on this forum, I noticed that several others were looking for the same or a similar answer, so I started a new thread. Thank you again for trying to help, you are a terrific resource for us "old dogs" that still want to learn new tricks".
