Most of my CAD experience is with printed circuit boards.

With these programs it was very easy to 'edit' a line (just click on an end). By 'edit', I mean that I want to leave one end of the line anchored at its present position, and then move just the other end of the line.

So far, the only way I have found to edit a line is to delete it and start over.

It's very easy to do. Click near the end of the line and drag your selection window over the end you want to edit. I must also remind you that to select just the end, click and drag from left to right. If you click and drag from right to left, it will select the whole line (as well as anything else the selection window touches.)

Thanks to both of you above.

The procedure that you described, as well as the video is not exactly what I get.

I am now able to edit lines. The trouble I was having, is that after I selected one end of the line I moved my cursor back to the end of the line for editing. Nothing happened.

For some reason, in order to “grab” the end of the line I have to move the cursor a certain distance AWAY from the end of the line. I then get the four arrow cursor and I can now edit.

I'm not sure why I have to move my cursor away from the end of the line. I am working with an architectural drawing, so everything is very big (in the real world) most of my past CAD experience is with drawings that were the same or bigger than the real-world item.

Glad to hear you've got it figured out. However, I am more than a little curious as to how or why you're having to do things a little differently than we described.

If I remember correctly, there is an excellent tutorial that comes with the program that demonstrates this very well. You may want to check that out too.

When I started using ViaCAD, I thought I'd just figure out this "simple" program on my own. After a while, I "discovered" the tutorials that were under the Help menu and it blew me away some of the things I didn't know how to use properly. Even now, I love to see these guys do tutorials because there are so many depths to which this fantastic program can be used.

While ViaCAD seems very simple on the surface, it is an amazingly powerful and capable program. You can truly do some great things with it, and at a much faster pace than with almost any other CAD application out there.

Well, I have it partially figured out. My ViaCAD does not edit lines with the smoothness and precision shown in the video in the post above. I am able to edit the line, it's just more difficult.

Yes, I've watched all the videos. In fact, I used ViaCAD, version 5, several years ago and did many drawings and never had to ask anyone anything.

I agree with your point completely, but as I am sure you have experienced elsewhere in the computer world, sometimes software does not behave the way it is described.

What's driving me a little batty is some of the things I am trying to do, do not behave in the way that the tutorials show. In the tutorials, he quickly zips through editing and drawing. For some reason, I find the software acting more sluggish. I am using a 8 core Mac Pro so I should have enough computing power.

I think you **might** see this effect if you have Perspective switched on.

What is your snap hit radius set at?

You can select the line and edit the end point coordinates in the Inspector data fields.
