I use grid snapping constantly, so I often find myself needing to go to Preferences->Grid to readjust its parameters to suit the zoom level I am working with, making it coarser or finer (most of times just tweaking the X and Y-divs). Preferences settings are OK for establishing document defaults, but I think the Grid merits having a fast way of readjusting its parameters, as one usually is switching between two sets (for near and far views) at the very least, and currently its controls are rather too deeply buried into the GUI.

Some possibilities are:

-Letting us create several presets and having a Grid Presets Palette. Seems the easiest way to add it to the app. They could be in the contextual menu, too.

-Having a "XY-Divs on/off" checkbox.

-Having some 100:1, 10:1, 1:1, 1:10, 1:100 radio buttons.

I agree- controls for changing the snap grid should be at your fingertips.
Having customizable presets is a good idea.

Another enhancement would be to allow the visible grids and snap grids to be different.

I use this feature in formZ with a 6"x6" main grid with 1" subdivisions, but I may have my snapping at 1/16". This is a very effecient way to draw accurately, and "visually meaure" what you are drawing.
