I wrote some while ago that ViaCAD was closing without warning when I accessed the File Open Menu for the second or third time. Tim pointed out that this is a known Windows operating system bug, and I've experienced it in other software too. I'm still being caught out by this one, and sometimes lose a fair amount of work because of it. Is there any chance of using one of the other types of file selector that Windows (XP sp3) provides, so we can avoid the problem please?

Thanks for this excellent program, Martin.

Sorry to go on about it, but am I the only one affected by this? Is everyone else using Vista or an Apple computer, 'cos I keep being caught out by it? :(

Cheers.
Martin.

Hi Martin

Sorry, we have not found a way around this one yet. The problem occurs inside of an api Microsoft provides for file navigation. We've tried different options/variations, but they too have the problem.

It looks like it :(

I'd wait until Windows 7 (and back up at regular intervals), or buy a Macintosh. Seriously. Apparently even the state of Texas have now banned Vista from any government building!;

Hi Martin

I have not seen this on Vista but on my work computer xp sp2 I noticed this happens but not always. Do you see it alot? and are you going onto local or network drives? I have to say that I like Vista better than xp after using for awhile, but alot of compaines are staying with xp because of interaction with I/O to equipment and machines and other software.

Regards
Jason

Thanks for the replies, chaps.
To answer Jason's questions: Yes, I do see it quite often, if I forget NOT to position the mouse pointer in the file seletion box, for a SECOND (or possibly more) time. This is accessing a local hard drive, although I do also have network drive on the system. I just can't understand why this doesn't happen with all applications, but then my understanding of computers is pretty much zero.:o

Thanks again.
Martin.

Martin,
We can get it to repeat here as well by clicking back and forth between the file list and side list.
