Hello all,
vcad ver 8 2D/3D how can I set the color of the solid different from the lines?
when I go to inspector and choose pen color it effects both the solid fill and the color of the lines.
any way to make them different? I have a hard time seeing the new lines using the same color.

Are you asking about a situation where you are clicking on a solid? I created a cylinder and then selected it. Whatever color the cylinder is, the edges oe boundaries of the shape are accented in red.

The only time it becomes difficult is when i change the object color to red. Strangely, no matter what color settings changes i made, i could not make the edges stick and display.

I attempted this under File,

Preferences,

Display,

Settings,

Object type -Solid,

Silhouette (on, off, or smart),

Edge Color (foreground, background, object, or user defined).

Neither Silhouette nor Edge Color would change or pretend to be effective for me. Even restarting VCP 7 made no difference.

BUT... But, to change the edge color, you must edit the Select property to be the color you want.

Even when the object and the edges are the same color, some distinction can generally be seen.

Something i noticed is that i will not see the change in edge colors as a customized color unless i partially select by sweeping part of the object from left to right. The portion sweep selected this way must include one of the ends of the cylinder, in my test.

If i select by clicking or by right to left then the select color takes priority. Right to left sweep selecting produces the color as though the object were directly clicked on.

I put the solids on a separate layer, with a different color. It's easier to hide/show it depending on what we're doing at that moment...

It just seems like if you choose a blue fill then your pen color is also blue which is hard to see, it would be nice if we could pick a fill color and a different color for the pen so this way you could easly see the difference from one to the other.
Example- I would like to fill with punch blue, but draw my lines ect... with black, so if your drawing on faces it would really show up.

Go to
Preferences -> Display
Object type: Solid
Edge Colour: User Defined
Click on 'New' and a colour circle will pop up to allow you to choose the edge colour. Any new 2D object will have the colour set in the pen properties inspector pane.

Thanks Billbedford,
what you said does make a difference on the edges but not on
any curves, if your pen is blue then you'll xtrude blue,
what I want is draw a square in black>extrude to a solid in blue, click on face draw a circle and have the pen color black. this way the circle would be asy to see.
the way it seems to work now is if your pen is blue you'll extrude blue, and your circle is also be blue which makes it hard to see.

In that case you could :-
Change the colour of the extrusion as soon as you've drawn it
Draw in wire frame mode
Turn on transparency for the cube
All of these will make lines visible on the surface of solids.

I have to agree with Victor: it would be great if you can VC up to always draw a different colour line and solid. Not that you will have to change the colour everytime you create a new solid or curve. It is already confusing that there are two panes in the Inspector next to each other where you can set up the colour. already. When I started with VC, I actually thought it worked this way, because of the two panes.

It also does make sense, as you will be able to distinguish the solids from the curves.

I second your suggestion.
I hate to say that, but in Solidworks all lines in sketches are blue
if undefined and black if defined (with constraints/dimensions).
So a black color (or better a choosable one for only the sketches
and a one which is different than the one used for the solid
WOULD BE GREAT!.

agree - different cullas (Geordie spelling) for entity types would be great !
